This has got to be the worst thing I have ever seen. I don't know what to rate this.

takewithfood - 2007-09-01

I don't know how to rate it either so this way we've got both bases covered. If there was a button I could push that would destroy the human race, I'd leave a cinder block on top of it.

Chet - 2007-09-01

1 - because I wish I had never seen it.

It was depressing, I saw one get away...

dead_cat - 2007-09-01

So that's where all the dolphins have gone.

Jimmy Labatt - 2007-09-01

I honestly couldn't watch past the first ten seconds. I quit out after "...interferes with the dolphins' sonar". Five starring it to keep it in view.

yeahjim - 2007-09-01

I know that I have to watch videos like this one for as long as I continue to eat meat.

blase - 2007-09-01

Ranks high on the list of horrifying, although not quite as bad as the Chinese fur farm video.

Angel Carver - 2007-09-01

This is from the full-length animal-rights documentary "Earthlings", which is packed with horrifying material like this. (This is no doubt a 'highlight.') As a documentary the movie is pretty atrocious -- Joaquin Phoenix's narration is idiotic, full of retarded anthropomorphizing -- but the footage speaks for itself: it pretty much sealed the deal in making me a vegetarian.

Oh, Japan.

Screwtape - 2007-09-01

Last time I was in Japan I was in some department store and was appalled that they still openly and legally sell ivory.

The Japs love to play lip service to environmental issues and nature, but when it comes to actually doing something about it, they fucking suck.

Roachbud - 2007-09-01

Tasty dolphins

mouser - 2007-09-01

I wonder, though, how's that different from the cattle or porc industries.

No rating because although this is ugly, we feed too.

Adramelech - 2007-09-01

Uh... yup, that's what it looks like when you hunt and kill animals for food to feed people. Christ do I hate out of touch hippies.

theSnake - 2007-09-01

I tend to think we should be nicer to the smarter animals, but come on people, Japan is an island. What do you expect them to eat? Indians (dots not feathers lulz) feel the same way about what you eat.

blase - 2007-09-02

It's not all of Japan; just one or two small fishing villages. (Yeah, they're an island -- like Manhattan or Hawaii, neither of which need to resort to something like this.) The real reason they kill them is to reduce the competition for fish. Dolphin meat isn't supposed to be all that good anyways, and it's loaded with mercury. http://japanfocus.org/products/details/2306

Also, farm livestock are usually stunned before the throat-slitting.

oswaldtheluckyrabbit - 2007-09-01

You mean you have to kill animals in order to eat them? I was unaware

FeeFiFoFoTheFifeFifeBrown - 2007-09-01

It's amazing that anyone could be shocked by this kind of stuff. Killing is ugly and gross. The schoolkids over there seem to know that much. That adults should be so sheltered and naive is really an indictment of Western society today.

Mudpuppy - 2007-09-02

I can't speak for all of western society, but I find it upsetting because dolphins are self aware. They're just a little too smart for me to be comfortable with this. Same with elephants and chimpanzees.
Also it could really be damaging the population, I can't say I know anything about that side of things though.

PastorBucknaked - 2007-09-01

It's not that the animals are getting killed. It's how they die that really fucking sucks. Try something more humane, Japan.

Adramelech - 2007-09-01

Slicing the throat and allowing the animal to bleed out is usually considered a pretty darn humane way to kill food, even the only "clean" way to do it by some groups. I mean really, what other options are there that are nicer and practical for meat intended for consumption?

Fife said it best, killing is ugly and gross and a part of nature. Deal.

PS tying them to trucks is probably not necessary though.

Scynne - 2007-09-01

10 dollars says the dolphins had it coming. Stupid dolphins...

kampfy - 2007-09-01

Benin and innocent? Maybe to people, but tell that to the fish the dolphins eat.

Jeff Fries - 2007-09-01

They call him twitcher

Gill_Sans - 2007-09-02

Pass me the speech center of the brain!

Billy Buttsex - 2007-09-02

5 stars because more people need to see this. WHAT THE FUCK, JAPAN.
