And I'm sorry to say a comparison of this instance to rape is an invalid comparison. In one instance, portrayed in this film, the "victim" is acting outside legal protocol that is not, by its nature, an unjust procedure (therefore, he is not practicing civil disobediance). The cops trained response to such activity is to enforce the appropriate protocol in this event (which, in this case, is arrest). Thus, the "victim" is acting outside his legal right. In the instance of rape, a victim is acting to protect her personal property (in this case, his or her body). This is well within the victim's legal right, whereas the attacker is acting outside legal protocol. Thus, the aggressor is acting outside his/her legal right.

Two difference scenarios. Two different interpretations.

What exactly where the cop's options when the man refused to cooperate with the arrest?

1.) Excuse the man's behavior and let the attempt at arrest slide.
2.) Use physical force to restrain the man, putting both at risk of long term injury (broken bones, sprains, etc).
3.) Use a device that inflicts a heavy amount of temporary pain with little to no risk of long term injury in order to restrain the resistee.

You are presupposing that there has to be a physical altercation. Your options are either that the guy having a mildly loud reaction will need to either be beaten or tazed in order to calm down.

If the cop had even the basic capability to calm the guy down, like would expect a peace officer to have, then he probably could have gotten the guy to sign the ticket. If you refuse to sign the ticket, they are supposed to arrest you. Signing the ticket acknowledges you were detained and replaces them arresting you for the offense at hand.

You don't sign the ticket, you take a trip with the cop down to the station.
