I love this movie. Unfortunately, America, having run out of all cinematic ideas, is now doing a re-make of this. Not that the innumerable god-awful sequels didn't bury it. Through parts 2 and 5 were pretty hip.

Meaning: avoid parts 3, 4, 6, 7, and 8 like the plague they are.

a flaming monkey - 2008-01-06

Damn straight, 8 was absolutely fecal. However, I still recommend watching them all... the trash factor is always entertaining the first time 'round.

Aelric - 2008-01-06

actually, i thought hellseeker wasn't bad at all. otherwise, i agree.

Merzbau - 2008-01-06

You're kidding. A remake? Fucking Christ.

baleen - 2008-01-07

Hellraiser 3 is one of my favorite movies, actually.

Sexy Duck Cop - 2015-12-15

If we lived in a universe where Hollywood was willing to go dark--I mean pitch black, abyss of Hell kiddie porn photo shoot dark--then I could see a point. Today, Hellraiser is kind of dated. All of the blue lights and fog machines and lasers and that scene where Pinhead breakdances down an alleyway in torn jeans gives it a campy 80's vibe.

1 & 2. that's it.

Cinnamon Imperialist - 2008-01-06

Book was better.

PS - Needs a "torture porn" tag

Jeff Fries - 2008-01-06

I saw this when I was 10 at a birthday party.

Ahriman the Creepy Lurker - 2008-01-06

This movie goes in the VCR every Halloween.

WE HAVE SUCH SIGHTS TO SHOW YOU

Hakujinjoe - 2008-01-06

1 and 2 are great. 3 is easily the worst. 4 is OK. 5 is pretty good. 6 is mediocre. 7 and 8 are not so good although 7 is better than 8.

I believe that the remake will also involve clive barker in some way so it shouldn't be awful. well at least not as awful as part 3. Come on, there was a cenobite that shot CDs out of it's head. that's just stupid.

kingarthur - 2008-01-06

Clive supposedly wrote the script for the remake, stating he wanted to update the S&M themes. The directors are two French guys. We may have something here. It does, however, serve as definitive proof that America is out of ideas. We've even gone to foriegners to do our re-makes of foreign horror films now. If British counts as foreign.

kingarthur - 2008-01-06

Also, 4 counts as the worst because THEY WENT TO SPACE. Whenever a horror franchise goes to space, its had its day in the sun. I think that fourth one effectively killed the franchise for a few years and condemned it to direct-to-video releases.

Millard - 2008-01-06

Um, wasn't the original Hellraiser pretty much a British film? Clive Barker wrote and directed it, and he's British...

Hakujinjoe - 2008-01-07

well, it was made by an american studio right?(i could be wrong) if so it's still an american movie regardless of where Barker is from.

Also, I didn't mind the space parts of Hellraiser 4. I didn't think it was terrible. Actually, if you've ever seen "event horizon" it's almost exactly like a hellraiser movie in space minus cenobites.

Aelric - 2008-01-06

and to think, for a moment, i hesitated

ztc - 2008-01-06

This needs a remake because now the Cenobites all look like Kryten.

Randroid - 2008-01-07

A brilliant and inventive suggestion sir with just two tiny drawbacks.

LetsFistAgain - 2008-01-06

It had that special "Depressing-Scary" that works oh so well. Im referring of course to the horny, ugly people greased by Julia

revdrew - 2008-01-06

COME TO DADDY

Frank Rizzo - 2008-01-06

that would suck, really bad.

charmlessman - 2008-01-07

Clive Barker is such a nerd.
