I'd see it.

Infinite spirit stars for giving me nerd-goosebumps.

Cinnamon Imperialist - 2008-04-01

The CGI Ghoma made me shiver.

The production values for this are amazing, all things considered.

Millard - 2008-04-01

Seriously. Did Rupert Murdoch just write them a check? I work for a competitor of IGN's, and I know that if anyone came up with an idea like this for an april fool's gag they'd basically be laughed at. I'm sure it's getting a lot of traffic (probably less so now that it's going up on Youtube), but this isn't something you whip together for less than, what, 10k in terms of man-hours and expenses?

dead_cat - 2008-04-01

A lot of geek-love and gratis labor went into it. That would go a long ways towards explaining some of the crappiness, too.

Still --

dead_cat - 2008-04-01

shit, that should have been, "Then a lot of".

takewithfood - 2008-04-01

A movie from this series is an inevitability, really. Most comic book movies were jokes up until fairly recently (even the successful Batman movies went to crap after Tim Burton), and, thanks to Lord of the Rings, fantasy novel movies are doing fairly well, so maybe it's time video game companies took another stab at the movies. The trick is to choose games that were popular about 15-20 years ago. All these comic book and fantasy success stories are built on the nostalgia factor.

Xenocide - 2008-04-01

They could have gone the easy route and made something obviously cheap and terrible and it still would have been a legit April Fool's gag. But making something that looks like it could actually be a movie, that takes effort.

coprolalia - 2008-04-02

The rules are different when it's Nintendo. They seem to learn their lessons about guarding their franchises and not making Miyamoto embarrassed.

themilkshark - 2008-04-01

This made me feel like vomiting. Uwe Boll HAD to be involved, somehow.

Yellow Lantern - 2008-04-01

Nothing can stop the evil which has crapped inside these walls.

Cheese - 2008-04-01

The hat gave it away.

Evilhead - 2008-04-01

Dude Lord of the Rings totally copied Zelda anyway.

Quad9Damage - 2008-04-01

There's something inspiring about Link putting on the green garbs like that.

Throwing in The Master Sword was a nice touch, too.

Caminante Nocturno - 2008-04-01

So the actor playing Link sort of looks like a cross between Kevin Bacon and Micheal Jackson. Don't ask me to explain my logic, but had I not known this was a prank, that fact would have convinced me that this was real.

mouser - 2008-04-01

5 stars (and then some) for the effort.

Hugo Gorilla - 2008-04-01

Who is the actor who says "I welcome the Hero of Time" while studying Link's hand? He sounds so familiar.

And if they really wanted to mess with people they would've added "Excuuuuuse me, Princess!"

NineEleven - 2008-04-01

Its that clone dude from DS9

Aoi - 2008-04-02

Jeez. My immediate thought was "Damn, was that Jeffrey Combs? That was Jeffrey Combs, wasn't it?" That alone is amazing.

Hooper_X - 2008-04-02

Jeffrey Combs will do your independent Sci-Fi or Fantasy film for an appearance fee of and the assurance that the craft services table will have Krispy Kremes.

Adramelech - 2008-04-01

I too am almost more interested in where the budget for this thing came from. Seems way too elaborate for a prank on a videogame site, even one of epic proportions. In fact, now that I think about it, I remember seeing a picture of the CGI Gohma versus Link months and months ago.

Quad9Damage - 2008-04-01

The release date is April 1, 2009. To me, that's the dead giveaway.

My friend said it best a few hours ago: "IGN has too much money."

Jaguar Wong - 2008-04-01

Funny, but it's no The Light of Courage. Crackasize!

Blaise - 2008-04-01

+4 stars for the effort.

-1 star for not taking artistic license on that ridiculous green outfit.

Camonk - 2008-04-01

Zelda is so terrible. Four stars for all the crying this caused. Also for the where the hell did a shit site like IGN get the wherewithal to make this?

fluffy - 2008-04-01

Clearly there aren't enough shitty games for them to write shitty reviews of.

NineEleven - 2008-04-01

MY BOY, this film is what ALL true warriors STRIIIVE for!!

Nikon - 2010-08-06

Indeed.

Xenocide - 2008-04-01

One trillion stars for the music at 2:36.

RomancingTrain - 2008-04-02

You can get a lot of sponsorship money if you never give anything a bad review.

Millard - 2008-04-02

Jade Empire was totally a 9.9.

StanleyPain - 2008-04-02

That should be "if you never give a major title with big corporate backing a negative review." IGN gives out plenty of horrible reviews, they're just pretty much all for small, indie titles or anything else they can let their unreasonable fury loose on and not have to worry about any backlash or care about it.

Merzbau - 2008-04-02

-1 point for no SQUADILAA! WE ARE OFF!.

Harveyjames - 2008-04-02

GEE IT SURE IS BORING AROUND HERE! For me that will always be the definitive version of Link.

Lauritz Melchior - 2008-09-12

HEY! LISTEN!

DrVital - 2008-04-02

Worth five stars for the effort it took to make it happen.

Udderdude - 2008-04-02

I came.

gambol - 2008-04-02

The best part is the credit screen in the shape of the rock-spitting monster from the original game.

Chibisuke - 2009-03-26

Damn, good eye.

KnowFuture - 2008-04-02

http://www.homestarrunner.com/filmstyle_trogdor.html

Hooper_X - 2008-04-02

I pretty much knew this was a hoax as soon as I realized how fucking retarded Link looked in the elf hat. No test audience would take that shit seriously.

(also, that nobody had heard anything at all about this being in development/casting/shooting/etc., but seriously. that hat/baggy sweatshirt combo is pretty awful. it'd have to go for a serious film.)

davinciclone - 2008-04-02

Best April Fools' day ever.

Rafiki - 2008-04-02

Didn't Nintendo partner with IGN to host all of their online Wii content (virtual store, etc.)? That's where the budget came from right there.

oswaldtheluckyrabbit - 2008-04-02

I just wonder what Ganon's up to!

Harveyjames - 2008-04-08

GEE, IT SURE IS BORING AROUND HERE!

Nikon - 2011-04-21

SQUADDILAH, WE ARE OFF

Harveyjames - 2008-04-02

Thank god that's a prank because WOWEEEEEE that looks shitty

FABIO2 - 2008-04-02

I would really, really like to find out how much this cost, and the story behind how it was approved as a worthwhile endeavor. The clip itself isn't even that good. The only amazing thing about it is the apparent cost for a throwaway April Fool's gag. Does an internet game review site really have this much money to burn? It's 1999 all over again.

dementomstie - 2008-04-02

I'm glad it's a prank just because if the trailer came a year before the movie and it looked this good it'd be horrible when it eventually came out.
Also, it wouldn't be good anyway based off of this trailer, they just took the best game and movie-ized it. That doesn't work. See: Any Uwe Boll video game movie ever.

thebaronsdoctor - 2008-04-02

This thing actually looked reasonable...Up until Ganon the Cowardly Lion reared his ugly mane.

wtf japan - 2008-04-02

The best part of this was "Speak to no one."

This prank would have actually been phenomenally better if they did a horrendously shitty job and credited Uwe Boll as the director.

fluffy - 2009-03-08

And of course Link is entirely silent through the whole trailer.

Billie_J_Buttfuck - 2008-04-03

Looks like an indi flick with decent CGI... but five starts fr the retardery it ensued.

j lzrd / swift idiot - 2009-09-16

Way the fuck too much money.
