A mistake has caused Moscow to be nuked.. now the president must make the ultimate sacrifice to prevent WW3.

It's better that you just watch this.. watching the entire movie will just give you ulcers and nightmares.

Syd Midnight - 2008-04-06

Oh God, having seen the whole movie, this makes me CRY. You don't want to see it.

Frank Rizzo - 2008-04-06

dimitri... your phones about to melt due to a fireball, resulting in a shrieking noise for some reason... dimitri.... dimitri... im sorry dimitri.... well how do you think it makes me feel?..... dimitri..... I know dimitri... I dont know dimitri....

Syd Midnight - 2008-04-06

That deserves a bulb. Dr S. makes it feel so much better...

Repomancer - 2008-04-06

Oh man, it's been years since I last saw this. It belongs in the Cult Collection.

Syd Midnight - 2008-04-06

I'm hesitant to even recommend it. It's an hour and a half of torture. That makes it a cult classic of course, but, if you have an ounce of humanity in you, it is bile rising, fist clenching, cold sweat torture.

And whether or not you've ever seen "Dr Strangelove", you will respect that movie more afterwards. It is impossible to parody "Failsafe", yet "Dr Strangelove" does.

Kids, watch these 2 movies and you'll pretty much understand the terror of the Cold War.

Diogenes - 2008-04-06

I'm fairly certain it's been released on DVD in the most slit-your-wrists-depressing movies of all time collection.

oswaldtheluckyrabbit - 2008-04-06

Depressing, yes, but it sure as hell ain't no "Threads".

Syd Midnight - 2008-04-06

Something I'd like to get across to kids (under 30's) now, is that this COULD HAVE HAPPENED. You think of the 50s and 60s as primitive, but they had the nukes to destroy the world 20 times over, and the military to do it. Nowadays, due to SALT treaties, we could only destroy the world 4 times over, at best.

We came so close, there were so many moments where it was literally a finger on a button, a corporal in a jeep, or the president arguing with his cabinet that prevented total nuclear war... you don't wanna know the truth.

Damn kids, grr, in my day, etc.

Frank Rizzo - 2008-04-06

the kids (under 30's), know that this COULD HAVE HAPPENED.

Pangalin - 2008-04-06

well, that's exactly what was so primitive about it, I think

Unsung - 2008-04-06

I read the book, so I`ll just assume the whole movie is good.

Unsung - 2008-04-06

Also, we need more movies with bad endings.

sweet. wish i'd watched the movie, though.

FABIO2 - 2008-04-06

This remains one of the only genuinely heartbreaking movies I've seen.

My father was a B52 pilot on nuclear alert during the 70s. He said this movie scared the shit out of all of them because it was so accurate.

OgreMkIV - 2008-11-26

For those of you who have not seen the entire movie, Gen. Black kills himself because he has just killed his own family in New York. And by ordering the attack, the president has killed the First Lady, who was visiting the city. Gen. Black's words reference a dream he had at the start of the film.

Powerful scene... thought a little perspective would help.
