"skipper in the speedboat, put away the jager and hookers"

Caminante Nocturno - 2008-04-10

And then everything went red... THE COLOR OF GUILT!

fermun - 2008-04-10

These 5 stars go to the man they stopped searching for after this incident.

anvill - 2008-04-10

Pouring out the stars like so many ounces of malt liquor.

j lzrd / swift idiot - 2008-04-10

The way they saved that choice piece of information for last gave this story a Sad Ending.

RockBolt - 2008-04-10

"Mrs. Simpson,
While we were rescuing your husband, a lumber yard burned down"

Jeff Fries - 2008-04-10

Keep going, I'll use the PA to activate noclip

dr_rock - 2008-04-11

This wasn't the Coast Guard that caused the accident, it was the Coast Guard Auxiliary - a civilian volunteer group that helps the Coast Guard with shit like search and rescue. It's pretty much the Boy Scouts for boaters.

It looks as if the Auxiliary guys were asked to keep people out of the search zone and probably got really excited that the news was paying attention to them - so they wanted to do a REAL GOOD JOB. The correct thing to do with that speeding asshole would have been to slow down once it was obvious you were on a collision course (and it was rather obvious).

"The first time I knew a boat was there was when they hit my back end" ... Way to go, skipper. Nothing says "responsible boater" like cruising at full throttle and not having a complete grasp of the other boats in the area. Too bad the innocent passenger drowned, and not the guy responsible. Also, let's get a Breathalyzer reading from that dickwad.

dr_rock - 2008-04-11

Ah I see. It was the original search target that drowned, and not some drunk retard in this boat.

zatojones - 2008-04-11

I blame the speed boater. They were actively trying to warn him off over the PA. He should have been paying attention to the large boat labeled COAST GUARD.

Scrotum H. Vainglorious - 2008-04-11

But his proto mullet gave him the right of way, dammit!

dr_rock - 2008-04-14

It wasn't like they were on a Cutter. The Auxiliarists use their own recreational boats... at most there was a few uniformed guys on the boat and a USCG Auxiliary flag. No big label of USCG.

Dinky Patterson - 2008-04-14

They should have been blowing off their horns and sirens as they approached the pleasure craft.

The Coast Guard Auxiliary is a component of the Coast Guard, so the Coast Guard is ultimately responsible for the Auxiliary's actions.

Dinky Patterson - 2008-04-14

At around 00:20 you can see the words COAST GUARD on the side of the boat.

klingerbgoode - 2009-03-02

he sounds like duane from home movies.

Charles - 2010-02-11

My understanding of boat right-of-way is that bigger, slower boats have it, and if you're in a faster, smaller boat, you need to fucking pay close attention to what's going on around you because your boat is more maneuverable.

Camonk - 2010-06-07

AND smashable.
