It's no where near the first rotoscope, the Fliesher brothers were using rotoscoping as far back as 1915. This was the first 'Video Rotoscope' (hence it's technical Oscar) that was originally developed for Bakshi's American Pop but never used (he later used it quite a bit). Nonetheless, it's pretty great.
I always hated Bakshi's rotoscoping, and most rotoscoping in general. I know he always had low budgets but it always felt out of place next to his hand drawn characters. Bakshi Rules and Tom Waits rules though so 2 for each.
