Too long to watch the whole thing. Please tell us where the beating starts.

vissarion - 2008-07-16

No beating. They don't do that on film.

These were Canadian intelligence agents who came to Gitmo to talk to the kid, a Canadian citizen who was brought to Afghanistan with the rest of his family by his fundie parents to die for Islam. This kid's older brother got out and gave information to the US and Canadian governments after his father tried to talk him into becoming a suicide bomber.

This kid (Omar Khadr) was 16 at this point. He's about 20 now, and still in Gitmo. He is said to have thrown a grenade that killed a US medic in the firefight in which he was wounded.

Kharnov - 2008-07-16

Watching him mutter "kill me" for over a minute really got to me. What the fuck.

futurebot - 2008-07-16

This thing really hurts. Fuck anyone who ever defends it.

Jeff Fries - 2008-07-17

Soul call, everyone with a soul please raise your indignation

oswaldtheluckyrabbit - 2008-07-16

Stalin would be proud!

Cena_mark - 2008-07-16

Stalin would be ashamed. Stalin would have killed the man long ago, and would have applied real torture tactics.
Stalin tortured his own citizens we don't. This guy isn't an American citizen thus he isn't protected by our constitution.

StanleyPain - 2008-07-16

Wow, you're a constitutional expert! Now, you may want to read the Junior version of the Geneva Conventions.

Cena_mark - 2008-07-16

I don't know much about the Geneva accords, but I assume being yelled at in a room is not legally defined as torture.
These alleged terrorists are being treated excellently as far as war criminals are concerned. Gitmo is the Ritz Carlton of POW camps so quit crying about it. No human rights violations are occurring here. People should apply their activism towards real atrocities like Burma.

Rovin - 2008-07-16

"I don't know much about the Geneva accords."

You just lost your own argument on your own. Thank you, drive through. Good attempt at trolling, though.

Cena_mark - 2008-07-16

I'm not trolling. I just want one piece of evidence that there are actual "atrocities" at gitmo. Otherwise I just see it as a bunch of whining over nothing.
Getting yelled at is torture? Try shoving bamboo under his fingernails. Hang him by his thumbs.
Somebody convince me of the evil of this video, cause it just looks like a guy being yelled at to me.

oswaldtheluckyrabbit - 2008-07-16

I'm not talking about the torture itself; I don't care if terrorists get hurt. I'm talking about the contempt for the rule of law. What is it--almost half of the detainees at Guantanamo are innocent, and shouldn't even be there?

futurebot - 2008-07-16

"Stalin tortured his own citizens we don't. This guy isn't an American citizen thus he isn't protected by our constitution."

That's an interesting non sequitur - claiming we don't torture citizens, and then claiming that he's not a citizen and thus isn't protected from torture. Which point is supposed to be the relevant one?

bacon-swiss - 2008-07-16

Use the googles. This kid's a dick!

Billie_J_Buttfuck - 2008-07-16

Jesus fuck.

Cena_mark - 2008-07-16

I'll bet John McCain wishes his interrogations in Nam were this tame.

bacon-swiss - 2008-07-16

I would like to torture McCain. With my dick.

buttnutt - 2008-07-16

You're retarded.

biclops - 2008-07-16

Yep. Being given insufficient medical treatment and extended sleep deprevation. That's downright cozy.

bacon-swiss - 2008-07-16

You're very smart Buttnutt. I bet you're hella strong, too.

Mr.Graves - 2008-07-16

You may want to consider that people are not war criminals until tried and convicted and thus not applicable to any 'justice' you seem to so fervently desire. They are not war criminals and as for being alleged terrorists I can allege you like to sniff young boy's crotches and that doesn't make it true until proven.

As for torture, psychological torture is considered torture just as much as physical torture- and sometimes worse. You want proof but any source (say the numerous international human rights organizations that are saying YES we have proof the USA is doing these things) you will simply character assassinate.

The kid didn't look up from his spa date half an hour before the interrogation and say 'shit, I'm late for my performance! Enrique, fetch my palanquin and have me taken to make-up!'

All of these bulkheads you try to throw up in defense have long been debunked and only most die hard of morons even entertain that there is still any debate over them. This is a common tactic in the media control of the idiot american- toss pundits up debating whether waterboarding is torture or not, and the idiots don't realize that nowhere else is there even a debate, it's settled.

In short, I apologize to the rest of POE for the length, and you sir, are a huge neanderthalic cockfaggot. I mean that in a totally non homophobic but completely derogatory way.

buttnutt - 2008-07-16

I was replying to Cena mark

bacon-swiss - 2008-07-17

Aw, jeez. I'm a little embarrassed.

Crucifried - 2008-07-16

"Look me in the eyes while you say that" is a most evil phrase.

Stog - 2008-07-16

As for the video: I wouldn't wish Guantanamo Bay on anyone.

Cena_mark - 2008-07-16

Sure gitmo isn't fun, but I'd rather be a suspected terrorist there, than be an infidel it the hands of Al Caida.

Stog - 2008-07-16

asian hick - 2008-07-16

Did you just compare the US to al Quaeda?

Think about this question before you reflexively deny it.

Cleaner82 - 2008-07-16

The idea that torture has to include some sort of flashy physical beating or mutilation is outmoded. It's more possible and effective than ever to destroy a person's mind without leaving a mark. Just ask the psychologists who have been hired to devise methods to do just that. You think it's tame because there's no man in an iron mask being prodded with red hot pokers, but your thinking is in the dark ages. The only thing that needs to be tortured to crack a person, is their mind, and that's what Gitmo is designed to do.

Cockmaster Flash - 2008-07-16

Ignore Cena mark; he's too big a pussy to admit he wants to torture Muzzies.

Cena_mark - 2008-07-16

POE's consensus: He who disagrees is a troll. Who's the Stalinist now?

Stog - 2008-07-16

my balls are stalinist

Cleaner82 - 2008-07-16

My dog was always Stalinist. He never admitted it but I knew.

Cleaner82 - 2008-07-17

Also, ironically, saying something so deeply dumb in my book forever marks you as a troll.

Aoi - 2008-07-17

These oranges are pretty fucking Stalinist.

sosage - 2008-07-17

God damn POE and it's Stalinist-like prosecution of the dumb.

EvilHomer - 2008-07-17

Of course, what they're not showing is all the interrogations where they buy the guy a Big Mac and let him watch movies for an hour or two.

Cleaner82 - 2008-07-17

"I must say this is a nice change from the beatings. Wait a minute, what is this, Albert Pyun? NOOOOOO!!!!"

EvilHomer - 2008-07-17

No, no, I'm serious. Or, well, half serious.

I know a couple guys who spent time as guards at Gitmo. They absolutely hated the job- said it was the worst stint they ever had to do- but there's a lot more to the US military prison system than our shock-happy media likes to let on. Yeah, there's torture- err, sorry, "reasonable use of aggressive coercion", but Human Intel does whatever works, and for most cases it's less extreme than this. "Good cop, bad cop" routines and so forth: some Hajjis will narc on their buddies for nothing more than a burger and a Pauly Shore film.

Personally, I find that a lot more fascinating (and, in some ways, disturbing) than this stuff.
