I'm so glad he's going to come back to Springfield, IL, this Saturday! Looking forward to seeing him in my hometown again since his candidacy announcement.

(Yes, we do have more than just hog calling. But there's plenty of that, too.)

jaunch - 2008-08-19

Class act all the way. I really hope he wins. And even more so, I hope there isn't some terrible secret lurking in his past.

baleen - 2008-08-19

There's some rumors going around that he's black.

IrishWhiskey - 2008-08-19

"I believe the American people are better than that"

Hey Obama? The last guy who beat McCain did so by insinuating that the torture as a POW drove him crazy, and that he had an illegitimate black baby. That guy was then reelected against his war hero opponent by insinuating that Purple Heart wounds were like Band-aids and used blatantly false smear merchants to attack his patriotism and service.

Just sayin'...

simon666 - 2008-08-19

everyone should watch the 'related' video of Bacevich (white guy, gray hair and glasses). i saw the original on television. he's on bill moyers.

simon666 - 2008-08-19

here's the link of the program: http://www.pbs.org/moyers/journal/08152008/watch.html

baleen - 2008-08-19

Yes, I highly wish men like that were the public voice of our foreign policy, and not disgusting cowboy bullshit assholes like George Bush and John McCain.

Cleaner82 - 2008-08-19

This man is what a conservative should be.

Xenocide - 2008-08-19

Holy shit, Fox News aired this entire thing. And not once did they put "SECRET MUSLIM INFILTRATES VFW" at the bottom of the screen.

Fuck yes, this was a great speech. I hope he uses it on McCain in the debates, since it'll either force him to talk policy, or expose his complete lack of any substantial policy.

Cleaner82 - 2008-08-19

McCain isn't a total moron, he does have a comprehensive policy I'm sure. But the thing about these HAR HAR TALLY HO FIGHT EVIL guys is they know it doesn't hold up to real life, and there may be some startling 'negotiate with evil' tactics in his playbook that need airing out.

fermun - 2008-08-19

At the beginning of the video, the extra information at the bottom there says "OBAMA: NEXT COMMANDER IN CHIEF" and at first I didn't notice the second line. Fox News needs to get someone else to do that for those of us too lazy to read the second line.

Camonk - 2008-08-19

Don't worry, Obama, I'll say for you that John McCain is a cowardly asshole who can't fly a plane at all and how that doesn't make him no war hero and it doesn't make him qualified to run no countries.

Cena_mark - 2008-08-19

Liar liar pants on fire.

baleen - 2008-08-19

The humorless mental process of the modern conservative.

baleen - 2008-08-19

oh my the way I have your mom's anus stink on my cock.

simon666 - 2008-08-19

I think I figured you out. Your theatrics here are an exercise in rhetorical discourse in where you take an opposing stance against whatever the consensus is. Well done sir, I applaud you!

Cleaner82 - 2008-08-19

It's called the "Devil's Advocate" troll, with the slight twist that instead of actually arguing for the opposition he merely one-stars a popular political video and burbles a few vague and possibly random syllables.

HarrietTubmanPI - 2008-08-19

Cena, the problem is this - you made a claim (that he is a liar, and/or his pants are presumably on fire). Yet, you did not back up your claim.

Usually when you make a statement, you should support it.

So please show us where he is lying, and how, and if his pants really are on fire and what we should do about that.

Desidiosus - 2008-08-19

I do believe the lack of smoke clearly indicates his pants are not, in fact, on fire.

Cena, you do such a remarkable job of trolling on here, that I really don't think you actually are a conservative. You seem to me to be more of a liberal/socialist, raising awareness that people who will vote for McCain are knuckle-dragging morons by acting the part, and causing all of PoE to be more inclined to support Obama out of contempt and disgust.

It is truly a noble thing you do.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2008-08-19

Why oh WHY can't Obama be more like the Republicans in charge now? WHY must he turn this into a house of LIES??

Caminante Nocturno - 2008-08-19

I wish I had enough faith in this country to truly believe he will win.

baleen - 2008-08-19

There's a big difference... Many conservatives are not going to vote this year. They are sort of fed up with the collapse of their party's values. So while they might whine a whole lot, which is pretty much all they've proven to be good at, they won't leave their houses, instead vying for getting fatter on the cheeseburgers of a dying empire.

Xenocide - 2008-08-20

This right here.

The polls are all close right now (Obama has the same 3-6 point lead he's had all summer) but what the polls don't show is willingness to actually vote. The thing that's going to kill the Republicans this year is the enthusiasm gap; people on the left are fired up for Obama, while McCain can barely manage a tepid response from his side. It's "FUCK YEAH, THIS IS OUR GUY WOOHOO THIS IS GONNA BE AWESOME" vs. "Eh, whatever, he's all we've got, I guess." Guess which one gets the butts out of the seats in November.

IrishWhiskey - 2008-09-10

But what if they nominate a hot-looking radical fundamentalist woman with zero experience as VP and hide McCain behind her skirt? Then they could pander to creationists, lie blatantly about their record, and accuse Obama of sexism while simultaneously suggesting women are stupid enough to vote for anyone with a vagina and calling Hillary a cunt?

I'm just speaking in hypotheticals here obviously.

Caminante Nocturno - 2013-02-04

He won!

gambol - 2008-08-19

that is a good speech

garcet71283 - 2008-08-19

Stand in amazement. He can talk. Anyone else see a bit of racism in this? Or am I just too indoctrinated by my college professors?

Also, I am not pleased with either candidate.

I am voting for the Corpse of Lenin.

Because a dead communist is a more capable leader than either of these.

Cleaner82 - 2008-08-19

Yes, we are amazed he can talk. Fuck off.

simon666 - 2008-08-19

cleaner82, well said.

Unmerciful Crushing Force - 2008-08-19

What are these...are these...tears? Of joy?

homohabilis - 2008-08-20

i guess so. mine taste...salty.

i'm more confused about this whole "hope" thing i'm feeling. what the fuck is that?

The Great Hippo - 2008-08-19

He should seriously consider dropping the microphone after some of his speeches.

dueserpenti - 2008-08-19

It's not enough. We've seen in recent days how the media laps up the shallow, mean-spirited McCain campaign. They're not making any room for a reasoned, temperate discussion of policy. It's not as sexy. We're going to keep getting questions about the nature of evil, and McCain is going to keep repeating his silly macho line about following Osama to the gates of Hell, and the election will go to whichever candidate produces the better soundbites.

baleen - 2008-08-19

The guy with the better ratings is supposed to brush off the attack ads, it's the traditional thing to do. As we get closer to the end you will see Obama's ads become more vicious, as he links McCain to corporate graft, the deaths of Americans, and how out of touch he is. I wouldn't be surprised if they tried to make him look like an insane veteran who has snapped and wants to play war games with American forces. Obama is doing everything right at the moment. I just think people are so racist and disgusting in this country that they won't even be willing to listen to a man who is clearly intelligent and would make a very capable leader, especially compared to the most incompetent president in we've ever had who just happens to have a normal sounding name and white skin.
