Wow the graphics in this are pretty damn good considering oh wait nevermind...

zatojones - 2008-08-21

I used this a few times. It sucked and made my 300 baud connection to QLink even slower

Smellvin - 2008-08-21

Was it full of furries?

zatojones - 2008-08-21

No that was the good old days when furries were too ashamed to openly display their perverted hobby.

Proof of furry.

Prepare the fire.

I wanted this so bad, I thought it was gonna change the world. I'm kinda glad it sucked.

20 years later and 3-D worlds still slow my computer to a halt, but at least SL is free.

CornOnTheCabre - 2008-08-21

Oh wow, as if I needed another reason to hate Lucasfilm, apparently they also invented mmorpurgers.

SURR-PRIIISE

Gwago - 2008-08-21

I like how they make it seem all pleasant, but in reality it'd be like being stuck in a YouTube comments page. "You suck LULZ"

An excellent article on this game, and a fascinating read for anyone interested in MMO gaming in general: (EARLY GRIEFING!)

Thx for the link.. I remember when it first came out, and the usual over-optimistic technophiles were predicting in-game cults and religions. Not for another 15 years!

There's only so much you could do at 300 baud, where data transfer was a great deal slower than reading speed.

cognitivedissonance - 2008-08-21

Only one year away from Purple Tentacle and Dr. Ed.

Cube - 2008-08-21

It looks like it uses the same engine as the C64 game Labyrinth.

mouser - 2008-08-21

A sort of precursor to the Sims of sort. Never even heard of it before. Nice find.

themilkshark - 2008-08-21

Looks mind-numbingly boring and uneventful. Where is the flash version of this I can play for free?

Binro the Heretic - 2008-08-21

I played a later 1988 version called Club Caribe. It was expensive and not very fun because of the limitations of the hardware.

I had tried it because Lucasfilm Games had produced some of my favorite titles; Rescue on Fractalus, The Eidolon, Koronis Rift, Maniac Mansion, these were all awesome, ground-breaking games.

I guess Habitat was just ahead of its time and the available technology.

Hummana Hummana Hummana - 2008-08-21

Quick, someone get Prokfy Neva on this, her opinion is paramount!

Syd Midnight - 2008-08-22

Just imagine a 6 page screed on why Second Life did it first, Linden Labs doesn't take her seriously, and anyone who says otherwise is an emotional terrorist.
