I'm going to about-face here because I don't want this to become a trend. That's eight people getting immolated and then shredded, and any good soldier would tell you that even if it had to happen it's not for your entertainment.

Knuckles - 2008-08-28

Then this needs the "getting one-starred as an object lesson" tag.

Tuan Jim - 2008-08-28

That's a good point, but I'm still 5 starring this because Holy Shit.

What are all those secondary explosions along the ground and such when the thirty mm engages?

Did the trucks have any explosives in them or is that just the gas tanks going up?

Cleaner82 - 2008-08-28

I was considering five-starring it for 'holy shit'. I think the rounds ("hellfire") are incendiary or something -- and the first thing was a missile.

zatojones - 2008-08-28

The 30mm rounds the Apache fires are usually high explosive. They blow up when they hit stuff.

Camonk - 2008-08-28

Dammit, Cleaner, stop trying to ruin everybody's fun with all your fancy college THINKIN'! How are we supposed to become so completely desensitized to war that we don't mind it anymore if fancypants like you keep telling us terrorists are people and whatever?

Fuck, now I don't know how to rate this either. Up yours, Cleaner.

Cleaner82 - 2008-08-28

Hey, I don't mind, I said my bit. If it makes you feel any better, bear in mind that NO RATING WILL CHANGE ANYTHING IN THE WORLD.

garcet71283 - 2008-08-28

You know Cleaner...guns and missiles are for killing people.

Just want to make sure we are on the same page here.

Cleaner82 - 2008-08-28

Really, your observance never ceases to amaze, Inspector.

Syd Midnight - 2008-08-29

I've 5-starred airline crashes. Perhaps you're looking for "Portal of Moral Introspection TV"?

a flaming monkey - 2008-08-28

....Why'd they keep shooting?

buttnutt - 2008-08-28

To make damn sure damn sure no clean up crew is required.

I have the same mixed feelings cleaner82 has so I'm not putting any stars on this.

a flaming monkey - 2008-09-07

You'd think the more bullets they used, the more cleanup crew they would need. I mean, the place was trashed.

Syd Midnight - 2009-11-11

When you use 30mm antitank bullets on people, there's not really anything left you can clean up unless you use a sponge.

zatojones - 2008-08-28

CONTEXTLESS MURDER

kelpfoot - 2008-08-28

5 stars for theft from those who hunger and are not fed, and who are cold yet are not clothed.

Cleaner82 - 2008-08-29

What is this a reference to? I'm intruiged.

kelpfoot - 2008-08-29

My post was in reference to Whitewater5's comment on this video, where he copypastes an Eisenhower speech:
http://www.poetv.com/video.php?vid=40365

The speech is titled, "The Chance for Peace," but you've obviously read it before, because in that same discussion you correctly identify it.

zatojones' post was in reference to this video, where Whitewater5 commits a different (although similar) act of faggotry:
http://www.poetv.com/video.php?vid=41620

Cleaner82 - 2008-08-29

Thanks! Yeah, I got Zato's.

...actually I just smelled a rat and googled that speech, I'd never heard or read it before then.

Wombles - 2012-05-21

Despite having very little context I'm sure we can all agree these men deserved to die for taking up arms against a foreign military in their homeland.

Squeamish - 2008-08-28

Five stars for an amazing display of modern technology, weaponry, and shit going boom. - 4 because that shit happens to be people.

dr_rock - 2008-08-28

People who have sworn to kill you and your cousins who enlisted. Fuck you and your one star.

bias - 2008-08-29

hey, im not trying to be obtuse here but was there any indication that these guys were insurgents other than the fact that they have some aks? I mean, dosnt everyone and there brother have an ak over there? Hypothetically, wouldn't you probably want to have a gun if your in a country where there's a chance that at any given moment your neighbors might decide their going to abduct you and your family and fuck you apart with a power drill? I'm not saying i know that was the case here, but there really isnt much context to work with. And it seems kind of fucked to just assume that they must be terriorists simply because they were blown away.

Shits complicated dawg.

Cleaner82 - 2008-08-29

Justified conflict or not Doctor, you are adorably naive to jump on someone for daring not to take death lightly.

Cleaner82 - 2008-08-29

But then again Dale Earnhart was an American hero...

homohabilis - 2008-08-29

no joke. if i lived in iraq right now, i would carry a rifle with me just to go out and get a pack of smokes. did we put a small arms ban on private citizens there or what? even then, aren't there some sort of rules of engagement? shouldn't the folks in the chopper have to feel threatened or something before raining high explosives?

halon - 2008-08-29

My first thought was along the same lines as bias's. Maybe there were reports of a gang of 8 active insurgents in a truck in the area, but I don't really have that sort of context for this video. All I saw was 8 people, one of whom had a weapon, get annihilated from a mile away. They never had a chance to fight, they never had a chance to surrender, they never had a chance to clarify that maybe they weren't trying to kill people. They were just gone.

Maybe they were trying to kill people; I have no idea. That lack of information, though, is unbelievably uncomfortable.

blank stars.

Cleaner82 - 2008-08-29

An assault rifle ain't a small arm, it's a heap big arm. If you're Joe Average Citizen and you want to defend yourself, as you should, you might be better off with a Glock. But it seems to me that yes, this could be a group of men no more dangerous than the neighborhood watch, patrolling within their territory (Iraq has largely retreated into big segregated clumps of ethnic groups) for anybody looking to do their people harm. Maybe they're not the most charming of fellas but that in itself isn't terrorism, and you can see why people looking to defend their own may think it nessecary to pack major heat. Could be more than that, we don't know.

A couple differences in my mind between this clip and the previous is that the previous clip featured bullets out in the middle of nowhere, and this one features bullets and a missile in what could easily be a populated area. Also, in the previous clip, and I could be wrong, one of the insurgents raises his weapon to his shoulder, indicating it was an RPG. Not a neighborhood watch on planet Earth needs an RPG.

halon - 2008-08-29

Sure, a glock is great and sufficient for self defense (hell, I have one). Good luck finding one for cheap in the desert. You can't walk the dog without it trying to urinate on another AK, though. Everybody has them. Everybody. Using "that guy has an assault rifle" in an area already rife with violence and conflict as justification for raining instadeath on them is really hard for me to come to terms with; the rifles just don't have the same connotations there as they do, say, in a US mall.

Deadfetus - 2008-08-28

Five stars for the forgotten victims of the invasion of Iraq. POEtv comment threads.

fermun - 2008-08-28

War. War never changes.

Cleaner82 - 2008-08-28

I dunno, were there always helicopters? I'll have to check my sources.

chumbucket - 2008-08-28

the VATS system would have made that effort far more challenging

Repomancer - 2008-08-28

The soliders didn't do it for their entertainment.
They did it for ours.

takewithfood - 2008-08-28

Impressive vid, yeah, but if you want more of this check out Liveleak or something. There are thousands of these clips there - we don't need 'em here too.

Cena_mark - 2008-08-28

Barack Hussein Obama must be sad to see his friends die without a fight.

Cleaner82 - 2008-08-28

I could've sworn I just heard a farting sound.

Thatcher Pennywhistle - 2008-08-28

5 stars.

zatojones - 2008-08-29

sounded like a slide whistle to me

OxygenThief - 2008-12-28

He mentioned his middle name.

His middle name is scary.

*fart*

mouser - 2009-04-22

Meanwhile, everyone called W a cunt. Or was that a bush?

wtf japan - 2008-08-28

I want a compilation of these Apache money shots set to "An die Freude." Quit cryin, emo kids. Think of these videos as a testament to super-discriminate warfare. No women or children died in this clip. Just a few suicidal rednecks.

Cleaner82 - 2008-08-28

A missile and a barrage of massive explosive rounds from a mile off is pretty far from 'super discriminate' and we are racking up collateral damage in Iraq and Afghanistan like nobody's business. Stick to "I like explosions" and I can at least respect your position.

mouser - 2008-08-28

I'm with WTF-J here.

By the time this video lands on us, it's already happend long ago.

I could have submitted other videos. Maybe, say, the aftermath of a suicide bomber. Ever seen someone's face lying on the ground as if it's just a mask off of it's display styrofoam head? Plenty abound on Liveleak.

I selected this video because there are no signs of collateral dammage, other than 8 up-to-no-goods, and the formidable display of boom-tak-a-tak-a-tak.

What gets me the most in this, though, is how two apache (LOUD!) helicopters can hover far enough to have that good of a view and still make bull's eye, without even be noticed.

Now, Cleaner, USE this video to complain about war. But ignoring these videos wont make war go away. And if you must know, I am against the Iraq invasion. But I fully support(ed) other conflicts as well. Like the 90s Gulf War, or to a lesser extent, Afghanistan (though, no politicians out there really give a fuck about removing bad regimes... that too was purely business).

So, eat your lollypop and just look away from Portal Of Evil TV.

I'm 5-starring this. Even if it's my submission.

Cleaner82 - 2008-08-28

Oh, quiet with your 'horrors of war' bullshit, like I'm a child. I made exactly the same point you did in an earlier video, but I don't want to have a big wad of this crap floating around here. If there is, I'll survive, I voted my little vote and that's it.

wtf japan - 2008-08-28

I'd say getting a "a missile and a barrage of massive explosives" shot from miles away to strike a target area spanning a few meters counted as pretty damn discriminate. Especially considering the fact that a little more than 50 years ago, we'd have to quarter off several square miles and carpet bomb them. Heck, only napalming one village at a time during the Vietnam conflict counted as a whole leap in discriminate warfare. Of course, little splotches of fire in the dark and burning jungles are easier to look at than a couple of napping insurgents right before they and their pickup truck get blasted to ash. Something tells me you wouldn't be screeching about footage of the Dresden bombings. Just goes to show: what's most humane to the spectator isn't what's most humane to the victims.

Cleaner82 - 2008-08-28

Yes, it is descriminate relative to Dresden, well played. Hell, I'll do you one better, it's pretty damn impressive. But these hands-off tactics are resulting in a lot of collateral damage. That's just a fact. And bearing in mind that fact a stream of these clips leaves a bad taste in my mouth-- for what it's worth, which is about the size of a single rating.

But keep rattling off insults fellas, clearly a nerve is being tweaked here. Maybe you can insinuate I'm wearing panties next. I very well may be.

wtf japan - 2008-08-29

We just think it's a little silly that you're getting bent out of shape because "omg human beings!" Granted, I'd object to videos of decapitations or torture as well, because I don't come here for snuff either. But this is a night-vision video of an unsuspecting litter of combatants getting almost comically nuked to nowhere. They didn't know they were going to die, nor did their synapses have time to register the pain of death (probably). No mess either. Just good clean fire. Don't deny your excitement at the spectacle simply on the basis of its reality.

Syd Midnight - 2008-08-29

Wait a minute.. "hands-off tactics"? So you think we should grab them and throw them out of windows? They have guns and rockets, genius.

Cleaner82 - 2008-08-29

Yes, hands-off tactics. I am not implying we should engage them in hand-to-hand combat, don't be a goddamn moron.

Cleaner82 - 2008-08-29

I'm not denying you anything Japan, one man one vote. At this point I'm only defending my own decision.

glasseye - 2008-08-28

Combat porn = not cool.

Cena_mark - 2008-08-28

Uh cleaner. It may be from a mile away, but it isn't indiscriminate. They can see close up, and they confirmed that the men all were armed. No collateral damage here, just justifiable ass whippings.

kelpfoot - 2008-08-28

So, Cena, you are completely confident those buildings were all unoccupied?

theSnake - 2008-08-28

Can I 5 star this as a lesson on the horrors of war in the modern age?

Cleaner82 - 2008-08-28

No. I take-ah you star!

Chancho - 2008-08-28

When is this game going to be released?

Big Name Celebrity - 2008-08-28

I've started to think that if I were an irreligious Iraqi (thin on the ground, I'm aware) who held no anti-American sentiment before 2003, and who nominally would be better off without Hussein, I would still at this point be compelled to take up arms against the American occupation, simply on principle if not out of a sense of patriotism. It's not enough for me any more to look at videos like this and think "oh, well, they deserved it for fighting against our troops". I'm kind of starting to identify- all things being equal- with the guys I'm watching die in these Iraq videos. And it isn't fun any more.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not what you'd call a peacenik. If this video replaced the word "Iraqi" with "Hamas", or better, "Taliban" it'd be a race for me to try to five-star the video before I came in my tighty-whities. But the Iraqi situation is too fucked up, and none of it is entertaining in any context or lack thereof.

Cleaner82 - 2008-08-28

Oh no, don't identify with those guys. Those guys are human beings, yes, precious human beings. And I mean that with no sense of irony.

But they're fuckers. Really. We are sloppy peacekeepers, this is not good peacekeeping work, but there's a difference between sloppy work and deliberate sadism, I believe that a hundred percent. These insurgents, we haven't heard much about it lately for various reasons, but they will kidnap their fellow (RIVAL ETHIC GROUP) Iraqis by the busload and shoot them and dump them in mass graves. We're better than that. We're loads better. I just don't think that cuts us a blank check, that's all.

Cleaner82 - 2008-08-28

Duhr, 'ethnic'.

wtf japan - 2008-08-29

I would 5 star this video even if the roles were reversed. Just because one is on the wrong side of a war perpetrated unjustly, doesn't mean one kills unjustly in combat. It's not murder when an American kills an insurgent in combat, nor was it murder when Nazis killed the Allies in combat--not that I'm suggesting a similarity between the two events. That your personal biases toward one group and against another hold you back from enjoying this clip is absurd. Look at what we humans can do to each other now! The accuracy, efficiency, and impersonality of it!

Adham Nu'man - 2008-08-29

"You all saw him... He had a gun."

Albuquerque Halsey - 2008-08-29

fucking batman - 2008-08-29

faggots. nu'mans was good

Rovin - 2008-08-29

Cuz I agree with Cleaner82.

La Loco - 2009-02-09

Killem' all, let god sort em' out!

Cursed Egyptian Sex Toy - 2009-05-30

5 starring the explosions

-20 starring killing people on the basis of grainy black and white camera from a mile away. Did they even have guns? Were they on our side? who the fuck knows.

oddeye - 2009-07-31

I'm sure that the grainy footage taken from the chopper wasn't the only evidence they had that these men were combatants but it's not like mistakes are never made.
