Xenocide - 2008-09-05

Wow, Keith's part at the end surprised me a bit. I think the GOP has reached the point where they don't even contextualize that actual human beings with families were killed that day.

j lzrd / swift idiot - 2008-09-05

Well, it has been a while since I've heard any word about the 9/11 Widows.

karl hungus - 2008-09-05

the who?

Xenocide - 2008-09-05

Oh, and five stars.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2008-09-05

"for too long we've looked the other way"

Um.

Cleaner82 - 2008-09-05

It annoys me that conservatives will continue, perhaps until the end of time continue, to rub salt in that wound in an effort to shill for their own people.

GQ - 2008-09-05

What really needs to be mentioned: That the opening is trying to link 9/11 to Iran now

Cleaner82 - 2008-09-05

Ahhhh. That is a soulkilling -- I mean interesting point. No, I mean soulkilling.

Xenocide - 2008-09-05

CONSIDER: Iran contains Muslims.

What else contains Muslims?

The cockpit of the 9/11 planes.

VOTE MCCAIN OR IRAN WILL FLY INTO OUR BUILDINGS.

TheDevilsDictionary - 2008-09-05

I always think it's too transparent... but it never is.

kennydra - 2008-09-05

Fucking shameless. How do these people sleep at night?

(They should have shown that AMV tribute)

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2008-09-05

In a perfect world, someone would have switched them to a shocked audience.

Cap'n Profan!ty - 2008-09-05

They don't sleep at night.

Those who made the video sleep during the day, because they're fucking ghouls.

Those who clapped at the video do not sleep at all, because they are afraid of their own shadows.

1394 - 2008-09-05

Wow, tasteless.

StanleyPain - 2008-09-05

If I had the time and energy (and not as much anger in me about this) I would make a great parody of this with the same tinkly music and "I AM MAN-SAD" style narration about how Bush repeatedly and blatantly ignored all of the clear signs 9/11 was coming, not to mention how the US government (mostly Republicans) opted to train and arm most of these terrorists in the 80s and directly manufacture the political climate in the Middle East that emboldened them into what we now see today.

Make no mistake, this is not just political grandstanding of the usual sort. This is fucking disgusting and all Republicans everywhere should be utterly ashamed of what their party is doing by exploiting 9/11 victims in such a cheap, tasteless manner. Especially when they all helped cause it, then fought to prevent a full investigation, then attempted to stymie the process of recovering the bodies and restoring ground zero as quickly as possible.
A lot of people won't care about what the RNC pulled with this video, and that's really sad and disappointing, because it is a sign of deep, deep, vile sickness within these people to which so many need to wake up to.

StinkyFist - 2008-09-05

I don't know folks... If I remember correctly (and, since it's been a few years and everyone and their uncle's uncle has exploited dead people from the WTC, I may not remember all that correctly) there were people that actually died on September 11th, 2001. Fuck Mr. Olbermann and his tragic memories... it was worse for a few thousand people who, you know, actually died and all...

I don't think this "tribute" has any place in anyone's election campaign or national convention. But to say that remembering how something you survived, something that actually killed other people is too painful is the worst sort of shit you can spew. Motherfucker if you remember, vividly, what happened to the USS Cole's crew, the embassy workers, the servicemen, and the WTC workers every day you live, you're still not even close to as dead and gone and never again as those people who died. Damn am I tired of people solemnly relating "where they were that day": if you're alive to talk about it, and it wasn't your wife, husband, or child, you got off lucky... shut the fuck up.

Come to think of it (and I'm sure I'll be ever so popular for the simplistic and obvious take on these events I'm about to espouse) but didn't people die in our embassy, barracks, and ship bombings too? And weren't these killings pretty much owned and pinned on as badges of pride by every Islamist asshole who had decided that America was the sole reason that their lives sucked so much? Taken as it is, I'm not seeing a whole huge issue with this little video; where exactly is it exaggerating anything or misleading anybody?

I'm sorry if the memory of people dying by explosion or fire or bombing causes you so much pain Mr. Olbermann... I'm sure it compares to the pain of being exploded or on fire or blown apart. I'm sorry you have to remember bad things happening to other people. Fuck you very, very much.

DopeFiend - 2008-09-05

Well put.

karl hungus - 2008-09-05

you know what, dicksnot? those dead people? THEY'RE FUCKING DEAD. THEY DON'T CARE ANYMORE. that's the thing about being dead, is that you don't fucking wake up every morning going,"Aw, fuck, I'm dead! That's such a bummer, and I am now going to spend my day feeling glum." so yeah, it's pretty much up to the people who lost friends and family to shoulder the pain at this point, so fuck off.

Chalkdust - 2008-09-05

So, Olbermann is worse in your mind than the Republicans on this one? Is that what you really just said?

Knuckles - 2008-09-05

Way to miss the point you twit. The problem isn't the memories of what happened, but the way in which they were used. IE, for political gain. It's about as horrible as having a 9/11 blowout sale at a used car lot.

Bort - 2008-09-05

The Republicans can't even claim that they're just pointing out how the Democrats screwed up -- it was their own failure to follow up on warnings, and they keep trying to milk it for all it's worth.

They got us into a needless war with Iraq using 9/11 (death toll in Iraq: more than 9/11), and now they're trying to extend it to Iran too. If you don't think that's ten kinds of fucked up, there is something fundamentally wrong with you.

The Faghorn - 2008-09-05

Isn't that what Olberman was getting at here? That people actually died in a pretty terrible and senseless manner, and that having their deaths used for political capital and for a specious case against Iran is pretty close to grave robbing?

Is the problem that he feels upset and pained about it? How the hell are you supposed to be angry at someone who doesn't like having the memory of their friends being dragged out for a bump in the polls? The people doing their trade in the kind of thing you seem outraged by, aggrandizing their own pain and angst with the cheapening of what those on Sept. 11th felt, are the people who made that wretched piece of propaganda.

Scrotum H. Vainglorious - 2008-09-05

Who let Rush in here?

juiceboxtheeverliving - 2008-09-05

RUSH RULES!!! TOM SAWYER BITCHES!!!!!!

waxeater - 2008-09-05

I think that what he's trying to say is that you cannot have any feeling about anything unless you were directly involved. So quit whining about that car wreck that killed your mom, you big baby!

Cleaner82 - 2008-09-05

People that don't give a shit about 9/11 can't fathom that other people ever did.

Syd Midnight - 2008-09-28

In the days after 9/11, I remember thinking "Eventually, people are going to make whorish documentaries and Hollywood movies about this." and being appalled. I should have kept track of when the idea went from appalling to cliche.

Also, I can understand the crowd applauding, but who were the people going "WOOOO!" ? Did they find it that pleasurable?

KnowFuture - 2008-09-05

The date was September 11th, 911?

Over 800 years before the United States existed as a nation.
Over 600 years before the Gregorian calendar was widely adopted.
And damn, did those terrorists have some amazing technology for that day.

kennydra - 2008-09-05

At first I was going to make a silly comment about that, but then the rest of the video happened, and I was appalled into submission.

Chalkdust - 2008-09-05

Propaganda lives.

RockBolt - 2008-09-05

We'll never forget, we'll do something about it. Ignore the fact that we've been in power all this time and have so far managed to only make things much worse

chumbucket - 2008-09-05

Mission Accomplished

glendower - 2008-09-05

The Republicans' now-rote invocation of 9/11 is the ultimate form of modern day Orwellian propaganda. As StanleyPain alluded to, 9/11 might have been prevented if not for the incompetence of the CIA during the Bush administration. And Stanley is right on about the US under Republican control arming jihadists in Afghanistan in the fight against the Soviets. More disgustingly, 9/11, after the fact, has been invoked by the GOP to wage a fraudulent war in Iraq and we still have not found Osama bin Laden. In an honest universe, the GOP would feel great shame at the mention of 9/11, but propaganda wunderkinds have turned reality on its head.

Cleaner82 - 2008-09-05

You are right about that, an eight minutes hate ain't that far off.

Camonk - 2008-09-05

Sorry I missed it from "We will have a president who knows how to win" until around the time K. O. came on, because I'd had to run to the bathroom to throw up. But I heard the applause from the audience. Way to go, assholes. Now they'll keep doing it. All 3018, September, incumbent president Cyber-John Whiteman286 rolling his 9/11 tribute video to get insipidly fatuous Galvanized Republotronic voters to activate their applaus-o-matics.

Caminante Nocturno - 2008-09-05

I'm never voting for a Republican for as long as I live.

StinkyFist - 2008-09-05

Wait. You're all treating this guy as if he didn't use a public forum to voice his opinion about this "tribute" and exploit the fact that he "lost friends" on national television to justify his comments. Are you fucking idiots?

Any tragedy, in my opinion, shouldn't be used for political gain or any other "gain" for that matter. I don't agree with the Republicans, have never listend to "Rush", being in Canada and all, and can still see that this guy is a tool.

Suck it up and realize that you had a gut reaction that was wrong... you were taken in with the anti-republican version of the exact same tactic. This guy said "9-11" and you lost your fucking minds.

SolRo - 2008-09-05

you are a moron. shut up.

Stog - 2008-09-05

You sure are fucking stupid

Knuckles - 2008-09-05

You are dumber than a sack of cocks and you have a shitty asshole for a brain. Eat a rotten turd and fuck yourself with a porcupine off a moving semi truck.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2008-09-05

Some of us agree with Olbermann. That is a possibility you know.

Cleaner82 - 2008-09-05

Look, Canadian, 9/11 is something that happened to Americans. You can't be expected to get weepy over everything that happens to everyone, I understand that. But over here in America some of us were well and truly hurt by this event, EVEN THOUGH WE OURSELVES WERE NOT KILLED. Believe it.

Rudy - 2008-09-05

You're right! Olbermann has certainly lost my vote!

For shame, sir!

Caminante Nocturno - 2009-10-21

I'm pretty sure you're being this stupid as a joke.

badideasinaction - 2008-09-05

My favourite observation, taken from another site:

"gee, they show the Iranian kidnappings, and the Cole, and the Embassy bombings, but they seemed to have left out footage of a certain Marine Barracks bombing. I wonder who was in charge during that one and what was their response?"

Stopheles - 2008-09-05

I noticed that, too. The GOP's blind worship of Reagan makes their accusations of Obama supporters being a "cult" seem rather ironic.

Frank Rizzo - 2008-09-05

-1 for lack of wackity sax

hell? Ill join you soon enough...

smoothbrain - 2008-09-05

It's yakety sax, you fat retard.

MYNAME - 2008-09-09

You're both joking, right?

TeenerTot - 2008-09-05

This reminds me of when my older brother died. Afterwards, my little brother dropped out of school, got a fake ID, drank a lot and smoked a lot of weed. When confronted with his behavior, he basically said "hey, my brother died, I have it rough."
I am not a violent person, but I have never wanted to punch someone in the mouth so bad in my life.
I guess my point is, when you lose a loved one, you can either honor them by trying to live well, or you can use it as an excuse to be an asshole.
It may be a stretch of a metaphor, but the GOP deserves a punch in the mouth for this.

notbob - 2008-09-05

Just like all of the post 9/11 tributes (Your pain and suffering, right after this commercial break), this is appalling.

You are using death and tragedy to sell something. Why not sell Columbine-branded bullet proof vests?

As for Olbermann doing "the same thing" as the republicans...what was he selling? He was reacting.

So like...if a republican drowns a puppy, and a democrat is disgusted by that, he's really just using it as an opportunity to push leftist agenda?

You have to be able to separate your humanity from your political affiliation. Not everything you do is motivated by furthering your political party.

But showing this video fucking is.

Aoi - 2008-09-05

Five stars for evil. I honestly think that if anyone (The Conservatives) used the Air India bombings as campaign fodder up north, we'd fucking lynch them.

Ageusiatic - 2008-09-05

I remember 9/11, and it was very tragic. However, the following weeks and months were incredibly strange. The "everyone be nice to each other" thing lasted a week, tops, and the "flags on everything" trend lasted about six months or until the flags had wheathered away.

Really, the best way I can compare it is if you heard a really incredibly funny joke, and laughed your ass off. The joke is a world-wide hit, and you see it repeated endlessly on every channel for the next week. All conversation is about that joke, and everyone you know has seen it/heard it at very least 1,000 times. Keep this up for a whole year, then imagine someone telling you that exact joke, and getting extremely pissed off when you roll on the floor laughing just like the first time.

I mean, okay! I promise I won't forget, but can we go back to operating on reason, and not blind rage?

FABIO2 - 2008-12-07

all ur base

RomancingTrain - 2008-09-05

Is there video of John Gibson making fun of Olbermann's response to 9-11?

Vicious - 2008-09-05

I remember seeing a brief little thing on CNN a while ago about the opening of Uwe Boll's "Postal" and whether it was okay to make jokes about 9/11.

I always thought, if I had somehow been interviewed for that piece, I would have said "it IS a fucking joke."

Cena_mark - 2008-09-09

Olbermann hates America more than the terrorists.

MYNAME - 2008-09-09

You hate the terrorists more than America. (It's ambiguous, dude! lol)

baumer - 2008-10-23

Oh no.

CornOnTheCabre - 2008-12-30

AND KILL US THEY DID.

THE END.
