It has been referenced a lot, but nobody thought to submit the original (I couldn't find one). I'd have liked to find a more pristine version, but this will do. Louie was.. one of those guys whose fucked-up voice expresses more emotion than a normal one can.

And this is not a happy song. For full effect, you should watch video of some war atrocity with this song playing in the background. I suggest this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=88jrZjsNHPc for the full historical experience.

What a beautiful artist.

Yes, this is a happy song.
This song is about being aware of the "atrocities" and the hatenessmanshipocity of the world and seeing past it.

I'm going to start a paper route right now!

I actually like this song a lot more when it's not being ironically spliced with footage of war and crap like that.

yay sincere optimism

No no damn you no. This song lacks pretension and irony and that is much of its immortal appeal.

On top of which, look at that guy and tell me he is not one of the best natured people to ever walk this planet. Others juxtaposing this song with said atrocities for cheap impact should be punched repeatedly in the kidneys.

I also liked Willie Nelson's version. But this one is nice.

I like his tie. I wish they still made them like that.
