They DID play it straight. Live-action Disney movies are really like this.

On my part, I'm not sure which I enjoy more: The kid named "Algebra", or "Head of Skate: The Rap"
I'm goin' with the off-handed delivery of Algebra. That was a joke that would've been easy to over play.
