My point is that you can argue that both philosophers have in some way damaged our country, and that if the threat is ivory tower ideologues fucking up things at the top, then that seems like a viable attack point for people who wish to go that route from either the left or the right, instead there's this constant and tired attack on Marx. Even with the taxes, it's not that bad. It sounds bombastic but I can pretty much rely on universal healthcare, pay a pittance for daycare and was paid most of my salary when taking care of our newborn. The kid gets a grant every month until he starts tuition-free university. I don't have to suffer public displays of religion. I can hike and camp on private property in a strictly protected environment. Public transport actually works. I don't have to be afraid of getting shot. Pensions are still decent, as is the school system. Prisons actually try to rehabilitate. It's not heaven but it's a good place to live.

Also, the political process nowadays is pretty much dignified and sensible which makes your election first class entertainment.

I've been trying to move there for a long time. What I love most is that you all bust out into songs at every party. It brings a tear to my eye.

What kills me is how most people don't know shit about socialism. It's merely a word with a negative connotation for them. They think it has to be incompatible with both democracy and capitalism, which it does not have to be. If people could see its something other than a totalitarian method of control, we might actually have an advanced democratic capitalist country that makes decisions based on being informed as opposed being afraid.
