Shit, no Mayberry RFD this week?!

spikestoyiu - 2009-01-31

If you were a Mayberry RFD fan, and your number was pulled, I have to imagine this was the worst night ever.

ArgonautCock - 2009-01-31

Though my father was pulled this night, you made me laugh at the darkness.

boba. - 2009-01-31

this is ignorant of me, but i've talked to many people who went to vietnam and i never knew that the lottery was birthday-based

fluffy - 2009-01-31

Don't worry, I'd never heard of Mayberry RFD before.

Cena_mark - 2009-01-31

It was a spinoff of the Andy Griffith show.

Louis Armstrong - 2009-01-31

Still horiffying. Thank god for the Christmas Norelco commercial in the midle of this. Provided this nice bizaro sanity saving moment before it went back it the horror

afp3683 - 2009-01-31

what an entirely strange and entirely modern 1st world juxtaposition.

Herr Matthias - 2009-01-31

Shoot, I was #2 on the list. Glad I wasn't born 30 years sooner.

mouser - 2009-01-31

Say merry Christmas to the lady with a shiny new cordless electric razor!

Camonk - 2009-01-31

They couldn't even get the reporter a chair that faced the camera? Weak.

Also, even though it's 35+ years on, I was still watching for my birthday to come up in that dreadful first third. Eerie.

MagickPoultry - 2009-01-31

I must object to the "Pure chance" tag. I attended a talk once about the statistics of it. I think what it came down to was the way that they mixed the capsules together caused a bias towards selecting birthdays in the later months.

Ageusiatic - 2009-01-31

Fixed.

fluffy - 2009-01-31

Of course it's not like being "racist" against late-month birthdays is that big a deal. It would have been just as fair if they'd gone in purely sequential order.

MagickPoultry - 2009-01-31

Perhaps. Or are certain segments of the population more likely to have babies at certain times in the year, due to cultural, geographic, or some other reasons? I don't know the answer to this, but it must be considered.

mr666 - 2009-01-31

I don't know if its that sinister. That sounds like an ungodly amount of data to have to process, cross check, process again just to target a certain class or race and exclude others.

Camonk - 2009-01-31

Yeah and racists would NEVER go through a lot of time and trouble just to make sure young people of a class or race they hated would be more likely to die in an unpopular war. Lucky for poor blacks and other minorities, it was mostly them to die in the war! O

Oh crap.

Cap'n Profan!ty - 2009-01-31

Uh, Camonk, they had those mechanisms. They were called "Draft deferments." Not a lot of time and trouble involved at all, really.

UnderANeonHalo - 2009-01-31

Everyone knows that Jews and niggers have long crazy names that weigh more on paper than pure Aryan names. This allows them to be sifted out for easier genocide.

GOOGLE RON PAUL!

Scrotum H. Vainglorious - 2009-02-01

I have nothing to add but LOL for that comment.

La Loco - 2009-01-31

Yay, too bad they ended the Vietnam war, maybe they can start a new one for the Irak war. I've never won a lottery before.

TeflonDoc - 2009-01-31

April 17 260!? I won. I won! I wuh--FUCK!

Knuckles - 2009-01-31

My birthday was 010. My dad got drafted and his number was 100, so... yeah, pretty much woulda been fucked.

Comrade Admiral - 2009-01-31

Valentine's Day...

Bummer.

craptacular - 2009-01-31

Then it's off to war we go. Joy of joys!

boner - 2009-01-31

There's a good chance somebody in that room had a son get drafted... I guess

Wonko the Sane - 2009-01-31

Worst. Kinder Surprise. Ever.

Stog - 2009-02-01

Imagine if they had to unwrap and eat all the chocolate off of those capsules on air.

"Mmm, mmmm. Man, this is great chocolate. This is the best draft ever. Mmmm..."

"Phil! Open the capsule already!"

"Oh, oh yeah! Uh... August 3rd! 2-6-1!"

mashedtater - 2009-02-01

if i had been a boy and back then, i would have been drafted the next year.

actually i would have been drafted the next three years.

gambol - 2015-07-10
