Shit, no Mayberry RFD this week?!
spikestoyiu - 2009-01-31 If you were a Mayberry RFD fan, and your number was pulled, I have to imagine this was the worst night ever.

this is ignorant of me, but i've talked to many people who went to vietnam and i never knew that the lottery was birthday-based

They couldn't even get the reporter a chair that faced the camera? Weak.
Also, even though it's 35+ years on, I was still watching for my birthday to come up in that dreadful first third. Eerie.

I must object to the "Pure chance" tag. I attended a talk once about the statistics of it. I think what it came down to was the way that they mixed the capsules together caused a bias towards selecting birthdays in the later months.
fluffy - 2009-01-31 Of course it's not like being "racist" against late-month birthdays is that big a deal. It would have been just as fair if they'd gone in purely sequential order.
MagickPoultry - 2009-01-31 Perhaps. Or are certain segments of the population more likely to have babies at certain times in the year, due to cultural, geographic, or some other reasons? I don't know the answer to this, but it must be considered.
Camonk - 2009-01-31 Yeah and racists would NEVER go through a lot of time and trouble just to make sure young people of a class or race they hated would be more likely to die in an unpopular war. Lucky for poor blacks and other minorities, it was mostly them to die in the war! O
Oh crap.

Yay, too bad they ended the Vietnam war, maybe they can start a new one for the Irak war. I've never won a lottery before.
