Here's something I always wondered. Was the Starfire from Teen Titans supposed to be the same Firestar as this cartoon? If so, why the name change?

Pillager - 2009-02-06

Nah, Starfire's boobs would have been too big for Saturday morning cartoon fare.

takewithfood - 2009-02-06

Firestar is a Marvel character, and Starfire is a DC character.

However, they were created only a few months apart, during a time when ripping off the other guy was pretty much business as usual (not that it isn't these days, but at least they pretend to hide it now).

I believe the similarity is coincidental. Yes they're women who can fly and shoot energy out of their hands, but beyond that (and the names) they have little in common.

Firestar's function was to be "the girl" on the team, and to contrast against Iceman.

Starfire's function was wank material: an alien princess who looked like a Boris Vallejo poster, who had been sold into sexual slavery and who gained her powers through a bondage experiment gone awry, and who learns language by French kissing.

So, does the guy in the next apartment wonder what the big radar box that occasionally becomes a bookcase is all about?

Amazing stars for you!

Proto-nerds...assuming there have been nerds since there have been humans, I wonder what they were into. Some stone-aged equivalent of Star Trek...some medieval equivalent of test cards...little pointy-haired freaks screaming "By Azura!" every time Joe Codpiece came riding into town on a certain kind of horse...

I don't know. I just know that this comment itself has become incredibly nerdy.

Someone I know said that before "Monty Python," nerds probably quoted "Gilbert and Sullivan."

cognitivedissonance - 2009-02-06

Stephen Fry writes about being a member of a Sherlock Holmes reenactument society, so proof that LARP existed before LARP.

Way to totally murder that fire man

Xenocide - 2009-02-06

"The city is being destroyed by a giant fire monster. One of us shoots ice. We'll need our high-tech mega computers to figure this one out, gang!"

socialist_hentai - 2009-02-06

the best episode of this series was when they had a video-game supervillan trap them in early 80's acade machines fighting huge pixels.

El Zapatista - 2009-02-06

Nah, the best episode was the X-men crossover, wherein we learned that Wolverine speaks with an Aussie accent.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2009-02-07

And whose adamantium claws can get stuck in a brick wall.
