Is this a sheepshead? If so, I've eaten one of these. They're ok.

takewithfood - 2009-02-12

It sure is.

Desidiosus - 2009-02-12

I would not eat anything that sits on my plate grinning at me.

Binro the Heretic - 2009-02-12

Yes. They're tricky to clean, but absolutely delicious. Their flesh isn't as dry and tough as most fish can get.

They're kin to parrotfish and triggerfish. They use those teeth to crack open barnacles and other shellfish.

Sad fact: Sheepshead Bay in Brooklyn is named after this fish, where it used to be plentiful, but it is now functionally extinct.

I was gonna submit this the other day, but I decided not to. I would have used the jawsus tag.

Caminante Nocturno - 2009-02-12
