What you haven't heard: Goonswarm destroyed Band of Brothers, the biggest or one of the biggest whatevers in Eve Online. One of their guys went undercover and eventually he achieved some ranking in BOB that allowed him to dismantle it from the inside. Now it barely exists as a virtual organization.

Camonk - 2009-02-17

It's actually that the guy was already high up in BoB and betrayed them.

Jesus. I don't even play this game and I've got a beard over it. Time to go outside. Five stars for that revelation. -1 for the unbearable nerd.

Jeff Fries - 2009-02-17

In your defense it's pretty amazing and it will probably end up being mentioned in a magazine article at some point.

Hooper_X - 2009-02-17

I like it when a game developer admits that the most powerful and desirable item in their game is pretty much there so you can get it and wave it around as a metaphorical penis extension.

King of Balls - 2009-02-17

Jesus these nerds

BartFargo - 2009-02-17

Yes, needs "Jesus these nerds" tag.

GoodAaron - 2009-02-17

Udderdude - 2009-02-17

Eve Online: The world's prettiest spreadsheet.

Udderdude - 2009-02-17

Also, this game's nerds make other MMO nerds look like superstar highschool football captains.

zatojones - 2009-02-17

The dude is the epitome of "SA Goon" an MMORPG playing, fat tit having, mouth breathing social failure.

Dib - 2009-02-17

I was going to say the epitome of Eve Online players, but yours is more broad and therefore correct.

Hay Belly - 2009-02-17

You forgot misogonyst, gun nut and cellar dweller. Lets get them all.

Syd Midnight - 2009-02-17

This guy got kicked out about 3 years ago, right after this. Oh the tears

fatatty - 2009-02-17

Am i the only one here who doesn't know what the hell is being talked about right now?

Nikon - 2009-02-17

You are not alone.

I only do 1 player games so I don't know about these intrigues and personality clashes.

zatojones - 2009-02-17

I don't play the game, but I read a summary. As stated above, Eve Online is a game that could be played with a cleverly written spread sheet and a couple of dice but is instead played through a rather nice looking space sim. The whole point is to band together and set up trading conglomerates. As these groups grow they acquire bigger ships, planets and other territory. One group, called Band of Brothers, got really, really big and equally arrogant about their ability to crush any other group if they felt like it. This arrogance rubbed one high up member the wrong way so through a series of circumstance he joined another big group: SomethingAwful's Goonswarm. When they realized who he was they hatched a plan where using his group admin powers he'd disband Band of Brothers. Once this happened their territory became open for conquest and since they could no longer work together as a group was easy pickings. Band of Brothers complained to the management that Goonswarm had somehow cheated, but the Eve people ruled that it was a legit action. Some nerds were happy and others were pissed off. I'm sure forums full of ranting ensued. The end.

revdrew - 2009-02-17

That guy should really go into voice acting. He's got that whole "fat nerd" voice thing down perfectly.

Chancho - 2009-02-17

How does he do it?

dueserpenti - 2009-02-17

This is how all you Internet fuckers seem to me.

pastorofmuppets - 2009-02-17

eatenmyeyes - 2009-02-17

Serpenti (if I remember correctly) is wheelchair bound. What is your excuse?

Wonko the Sane - 2009-02-17

so. much. fat.

1394 - 2009-02-17

There is a convention for this?

StanleyPain - 2009-02-17

On two of my computers, the audio for this is so low, it is barely understandable even on a set of power amplified speakers at near-full volume.

allcaps - 2009-02-17

I've listened to your explanations and followed your links and even conducted some research of my own, and concluded that this is a normal (and for America, normally overweight) guy asking a pedestrian and rather reasonable question that very very few people care about and receiving a good and straight answer preceded by a dull joke. In conclusion: Boring.

Prickly Pete - 2009-02-18

Whenever you notice something like that, a wizard did it.

phalsebob - 2009-06-05

I played Eve for about 2 hours before realising that I had roughly experienced it all, at least in small scale.
