absolutely flawless casting. i'd argue that harvey keitel's performance in the original is one of the single worst pieces of acting in cinema history and nick cage is certainly worthy of carrying on in the legacy of that role.

I like Herzog, but I find his bullshit about having never seen the original, or even HEARD of it or even having seen an Abel Ferarra movie pretty hard to swallow.

That said, the original was one of the most boring films I have ever say through, never understood it's reputation as this classic film.

This looks like it might actually be OK...it's fucking Herzog, give him the benefit of the doubt.

I agree, the original is no classic, it just has some very memorable scenes and its funny and fun to see Keitel perform them. So in a sense it's a classic Keitel movie, but the movie itself is a little dodgy.

Herzog doesn't give a shit about the media and routinely lies to them and tells them differing stories. Case in point: The hatred that Herzog and Kinsky manufactured for one another in front of the press. They would tell reporters they wanted to kill one another and then meet for drinks afterward.

After the film was first announced, Ferrara was quoted as saying "As far as remakes go, � I wish these people die in Hell. I hope they're all in the same streetcar, and it blows up." When asked later for his response to Ferrara's statements, Herzog stated that he does not know who Ferrara is, saying "I've never seen a film by him. I have no idea who he is.

Ferrara also directed King of New York. He's a pretty awesome guy, though nowhere near the level of Herzog's best. Kind of a shame Ferrara feels he's getting a raw deal, but hey, his loss if he can't see that this is going to be TOTALLY FUCKING AWESOME.
