Yes, yes, and yes.

kiint - 2009-05-28

he ain't no Harvey Keitel, although the Darth Vader harmonica riff was nice

fatatty - 2009-05-28

He ain't no Harvey Keitel.

baleen - 2009-05-28

Werner can get some great stuff out of actors, don't be so quick to judge.

Modern Angel - 2009-05-28

A cautious four stars because I love Herzog but I also loved Keitel's Bad Lieutenant.

BOOSH - 2009-05-28

Oh my

Cocheese - 2009-05-28

That harmonica comes straight out of Stroszek's dancing chicken scene!

Colonel Cowlung - 2009-05-28

This trailer is fucking terrible. Stars for Herzog, Cage, and Bad Lieutenant; these are optimistic stars.

Grace Mugabe - 2009-05-28

I can't wait.

buttnutt - 2009-05-28

this looks terrible

positively - 2009-05-28

this looks terrible

mashedtater - 2009-05-28

how does cage look at himself in the mirror anymore?

boner - 2009-05-28

Werner Herzog is the kind of guy who sees Wicker Man and decides he wants Nic Cage in his next movie.

erection reset by queer - 2009-05-28

You mean an awesome guy?

Millard - 2009-05-28

Shot on a cable movie budget?

Sammy Barnathan - 2009-05-28

Eternal optimism for Herzog.

abeli$con - 2009-05-28

absolutely flawless casting. i'd argue that harvey keitel's performance in the original is one of the single worst pieces of acting in cinema history and nick cage is certainly worthy of carrying on in the legacy of that role.

cognitivedissonance - 2009-05-28

"go"?

Squidmojo - 2009-05-28

"You don't have a lucky crack pipe?"

UmbilicalFiend - 2009-05-28

I...just......don't know

Cleaner82 - 2009-05-28

Hooray for lunacy!

sosage - 2009-05-28

So...what...is this a remake or something?

Heem - 2009-05-28

http://www.guardian.co.uk/film/2009/jan/26/werner-herzog-interview

"No, it's not, although I cannot fully verify it because I have never seen Bad Lieutenant made by Abel Ferrara. I do not know who the man is, although he has made a lot of noise about this. Only the producer, Ed Pressman, who owns the rights to the title and was apparently planning to do some sort of franchise out of it, named it Bad Lieutenant. I added the subtitle, Port of Call New Orleans, because it takes place in New Orleans. And the leading actor in this is Nicolas Cage, with whom I had a wonderful working relationship. I took him where he has not been before."

StanleyPain - 2009-05-28

I like Herzog, but I find his bullshit about having never seen the original, or even HEARD of it or even having seen an Abel Ferarra movie pretty hard to swallow.

That said, the original was one of the most boring films I have ever say through, never understood it's reputation as this classic film.

This looks like it might actually be OK...it's fucking Herzog, give him the benefit of the doubt.

baleen - 2009-05-28

I agree, the original is no classic, it just has some very memorable scenes and its funny and fun to see Keitel perform them. So in a sense it's a classic Keitel movie, but the movie itself is a little dodgy.

Herzog doesn't give a shit about the media and routinely lies to them and tells them differing stories. Case in point: The hatred that Herzog and Kinsky manufactured for one another in front of the press. They would tell reporters they wanted to kill one another and then meet for drinks afterward.

NewHeavenSalesman - 2009-05-28

This movie is going to be the elitist nerd equivalent of the Star Trek remake to lesser nerds. I can't fucking wait.

CornOnTheCabre - 2009-05-28

After the film was first announced, Ferrara was quoted as saying "As far as remakes go, … I wish these people die in Hell. I hope they're all in the same streetcar, and it blows up." When asked later for his response to Ferrara's statements, Herzog stated that he does not know who Ferrara is, saying "I've never seen a film by him. I have no idea who he is.

nocash - 2009-05-28

Abel Ferarra directed the Body Snatchers remake.

Xhibit and Warner Herzog worked together.

Merzbau - 2009-05-28

Ferrara also directed King of New York. He's a pretty awesome guy, though nowhere near the level of Herzog's best. Kind of a shame Ferrara feels he's getting a raw deal, but hey, his loss if he can't see that this is going to be TOTALLY FUCKING AWESOME.

CornOnTheCabre - 2009-05-28

i dont even care how the movie turns out, those two quotes, in sequence, are entertaining enough for me

Dumb Lamer - 2009-05-28

The trailer is better is you imagine all of the lines being spoken by Werner Herzog himself.

hezron - 2009-05-28

don't you heff a lacky creck pipe?

there issssss no iguana here

TeflonDoc - 2009-05-29

I saved these stars.

Billy the Poet - 2009-05-29

Werner Herzog had a dream to bring high opera to the wilderness of New Orleans. This movie is the result.

stifford - 2009-05-30

this looks horrible

it might have stood a chance of being tolerable
if it didn't try to fly the BL banner.
now, it can only suck in comparison
