Yeah, we want our grandchildren to have the same lifestyle we have.

Rudy - 2009-07-07

Or at least the same sweet, delicious uranium.

Freeman Gordon - 2009-07-07

Arizona.....

Torture the Artist - 2009-07-07

You know what would be better than Scottsdale having a congressperson? Scottsdale being carpet-bombed with crates of rattlesnakes.

Camonk - 2009-07-07

Arizona is horrible and the sun rises at 5:30 and everyone there is an asshole and also a moron because it's 4000 degrees by 10 AM. Goddammit. What a shithole. Take out Mesa and Tempe while you're at it.

And Then Explosions - 2009-07-07

I wish more people had Camonk's attitude towards Arizona. I liked this state better 15 years ago when there were 2 million less people here.

voodoo_pork - 2009-07-09

New Mexico is not much better. Every dipshit here wants to have their own personal golf course IN THE FUCKING DESERT.

IrishWhiskey - 2009-07-07

The fact that these people make our laws is still scary, but I've almost become jaded to it. What really bothers me is that she's undermining her own argument.

If the age of the earth is somehow proof we can't cause pollution damage to ourselves, wouldn't you be much better off saying its 4.5 billion years old instead of 6,000?

memedumpster - 2009-07-07

In a million years we'll be trying to convince alien superminds that we evolved in only six thousand years, making us better than them.

spikestoyiu - 2009-07-07

The 6,000 years old comment is overshadowing something which is just as -- if not more -- stupid; the idea that since the Earth has lasted this long, well then by golly it'll continue to survive no matter what we do to it. Because there were hundreds of millions of cars on the road, etc. 6,000 years ago.

From the Bad Astronomy article on this:

"The irony, of course — and there’s always irony when creationism is involved — is that she’s talking about uranium mining, and it’s through the radioactive decay of uranium that we know the Earth is billions of years old. And she also praises technological achievements!"

IrishWhiskey - 2009-07-07

Its partly environmentalists fault for saying "save the Earth" when really we're talking about saving our health and lifestyle. But even they can't be blamed for people who look at a record of countless cycles of environmental destruction and mass extinctions and think "well, its not like we've got anything to worry about. Earth's still here ain't it?"

spikestoyiu - 2009-07-07

Her arguement is sort of like saying that nobody will ever get cancer because they don't already have it.

phalsebob - 2009-07-07

Was the guy in the pastel blue suit behind her golfing?

boner - 2009-07-07

My Mom has socks older than that!

Dicknuts - 2009-07-07

Fuck it. I'm taking up her side. I'm pledging myself an extinctionist. We're the only species that deserves to go extinct and this planet will spin on happily and oblivious long after we're gone. And I'm going to support anyone who will hasten it along.

takewithfood - 2009-07-07

Ooo! Come help me with my doomsday device! So far it's just a coke can with a clothes pin clipped to it, but it's a start, right?

memedumpster - 2009-07-07

So far, nature seems more convinced that ALL species should go extinct eventually, making us not special even in the pessimistic sense.

The Mothership - 2009-07-07

I am for this.

Adham Nu'man - 2009-07-07

'the inherent folly of democracy' is a great tag and I look forward to seeing more of it in the future.

Hooper_X - 2009-07-07

...the Retirement and Rural Development committee? Those are two concepts that I don't necessarily associate with each other.

I mean, I know there are a shitton of old people retiring there, but what?

Hooper_X - 2009-07-07

Also, five stars because she CLEARLY GOES OUT OF HER WAY to reiterate that No, Seriously, I Just Said The Earth Is 6000 Years Old.

I KNOW BETTER THAN AN ELECTED LAWMAKER DOES!!

simon666 - 2009-07-07

I really was hoping there was going to be Price is Right trumpet fanfare. Please someone make this so. Please...

Louis Armstrong - 2009-07-07

me too. :(

DMKA - 2009-07-07

Arizona is the Mexican version of Oklahoma.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2009-07-07

I vote for some uranium to be stored in her house. Without her knowing.

Caminante Nocturno - 2009-07-08

Arizona is such an incredibly embarrassing state.

j lzrd / swift idiot - 2009-11-21

You could say it inflicts the rest of the U.S. with a state of embarrasment!
