It's nice to see Germans feeling free to express their full Germanity, and what could be more German than shouting statistics about a gigantic machine. I think the American equivalent is that video of girls in bikinis firing automatic weapons.
A cool thing about huge machines is that since you don't get very close to them, when they do something, you have to wait half a second for the sound of it to reach you. They make giant dump trucks near me, and giant machines make you acutely aware of the speed of sound.
