The problem with maxims, Cena, is they are too brief to handle the nuance of complex thought and argument. By spouting them, you sound like a simpleton.

His point is clearly that guns can only be used on bad people. This is why I've never been shot.

People seem to forget that both sides of any spectrum that has formed a dichotomy (political, ideological, religious, etc) have extremists. There are extremist Christians, extremist Muslims, extremists on the far left and extremists on the far right. All of these people are dangerous in that basic social rules that are generally agreed upon ("don't kill people", etc) sometimes fall below their subscription to their ideology.

People who are passionate about the 2nd ammendment are not all going to kill the president. But one in 100,000 might. There are people on the right who strongly (and peacefully) disagree with Obama, and back 5 years ago there were people on the left who strongly (and peacefully) disagreed with Bush. There are also people on each side who are millitant about this disagreement.

By opening up these doors, you're inviting these millitant people to take advantage of an opportunity. It has nothing to do with whether the leader is Draconian or not - I don't believe that Bush was a good president, but I would not call him a dictator. I do think he should have feared guns from some millitant far left groups.
