Wow, Newscunt and PETA pres. are assholes.

Document - 2009-08-28

I've said it before, I'll say it again: for an organization that's supposed to be the harbinger of Good Will towards all Earthly creatures, PETA are straight-up fuckers. From using pictures of the Holocaust to make a point about battery hens to just plain acting like dickheads outside McDonald's, PETA has managed to turn a huge amount of people AWAY from a pretty vanilla platform, ie. stop being so fucking mean to adowable bunny wabbits.

Have they done some good? Sure. Name a nonprofit that hasn't.

Have they hurt their own cause by acting like absolute fucktards? Absolutely.

There was a HBO documentary on PETA a little while ago - "I Am An Animal", I think it was called - that pretty much shows how fucked up they are as an organization. It shouldn't surprise anyone that PETA's founder, Ingrid Newkirk, seems (in my uninformed opinion) batshit insane.

Camonk - 2009-08-28

They've left cruelty in the background. They're totally anti-pet, which is weird. Apparently a bunch of people who saved parrots and other pet birds from New Orleans were stalked and harassed by PETA people.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2009-08-28

Good fucking Lord, I never thought I'd take PETA's side in anything, but this whalegolem just made me do just that.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2009-08-28

I mean, I am not discounting what Document said above, because PETA are a bunch of fucktards, but they are right about fat people eating too much fast food. This isn't hard.

And neither is the fatty arguing against...being called fat.

Document - 2009-08-28

Oh, I agree with that: fat people, quit it with the fatty foods. It's not a bad sentiment.

It's the blatant bastardry and media whoring of it that I disagree with. PETA didn't run the ad because they were deathly concerned about the obesity rates, they ran the most contentious thing they could think of to get people to talk about PETA. It's standard PETA bullshit.

That's my only objection.

Old_Zircon - 2009-08-28

The real star here is that newswoman's hair. What the heck IS that thing?

Twitch - 2009-08-28

I once again have to side with PETA. It's not hate, it a fucking choice. It's like saying 'Oh the FDA (or whoever) hates smokers, telling us what to do blah blah blah. Lose some weight.

Old_Zircon - 2009-08-28

That's the thing about PETA, they're right on a number of individual issues, but taken as a whole, they pretty much suck.

Old_Zircon - 2009-08-28

I had a girlfriend about 8 years ago who was maybe 35 pounds overweight and vegan. She started eating meat in small quantities for the first time in at least a decade and lost at least 25 pounds in less than two months, wiht no other lifestyle changes.

takewithfood - 2009-08-28

Weight loss isn't always a sign of health (nor is it necessarily a sign that you've lost fat; loss of muscle or bone density, for example, would show up as weight loss), but by the same token, meatless diets aren't necessarily healthy either. It's hard to get adequate protein without eating meat.

While I'm on the subject, the problem with fast food isn't really about the meat (or other animal products). Insane portion sizes, the fact that it's all drenched in bad fats, the high sugar content, and the utter lack of nutrition are the main culprits. You could eat vegetarian or even vegan meals at McDonalds and gain as much weight as anyone else. Half of fast food is corn, anyway.

godot - 2009-08-28

It's perfectly easy to get adequate protein in a vegan diet. Soy for example, has a near ideal mix of aminos and more of them than dairy, or in defatted flour/tvp form, than any meat

That said, many vegan diets are lousy, just as many omni diets are - in each case, if you're relying on fast or processed foods there's a good likelyhood that your calories are empty.

What we've learned from the Atkin's/low-carb movement is that fat storage and mobilization is really all about blood sugar spikes, and hence the glycemic index, of foods. Refined foods, and starches of any sort, unless they're in a fiber-rich environment like some beans, will spike your blood sugar. Fruits and vegetables won't. So

I saw a billboard in the beginning then it went to a pepto ad and I turned it off. Any point watching the whole thing or is the billboard the true star of this show?

Enjoy - 2009-08-28

Gotta go with Peta on this one.

Caminante Nocturno - 2009-08-29

I couldn't finish watching this because of how intolerable the host is.

5 stars for how intolerable the host is.
