I ignored his musical career, but I admire that he made a different career out of laughing at himself and at all of his fans.

Andrew W.K. is the only musician I've ever seen interrupt his performance to recover from kicking himself in the head from dancing too hard.

Hate me if you want, but I am not alone.

The thing you need to understand about Andrew WK is that he's a performance artist. He's playing a character. The difference between him and most other performance artists is that his art output is 100% good-time no-thinking-required fun. The other difference between him and most other performance artists is that he's a household name. There's a reason for this.

Andrew WK the "real" man is a sparkling personality tied to a huge and clever wit, which is the engine operating a massive circular saw that cuts your "he's not taking himself seriously" argument's legs off.

So, with that in mind. In this video he's not being pitifully wacky a la Robin Williams; he just has no idea how to describe what's appearing on the green-screen behind him, but is giving the job all of his good-natured energy nonetheless.
