Muppet operators are relatively unattractive people on the surface, which makes loving them even though you wouldn't be able to pick them out of a lineup all the more wonderful and amazing.

I think that Jim Henson and Frank Oz and other muppet operators and voices have done as much good for the world as Fred Rogers and (possibly) Mother Theresa but all while practically being anonymous. It makes you believe in simple humanity and stuff.

Whoa.

FABIO - 2009-10-04

Get Elmo the fuck off there.

You would love Elmo if you were three years old.

Nobody will ever take Grover's place though.

I really don't think I would. Elmo, as a character, is just utterly one dimensional: he's cute, end of story, end of character. There's nothing else to him. Then look at Grover: he was just as cute, not half as cloying, and his character also allowed them to do skits with him as a superhero, a waiter, etc.

Oscar the Grouch was pretty one dimensional too, but people love the poo out of him.

Oscar eventually grew to be a multidimensional character though. Elmo has always been the same.

Very touching. Bizarrely, as I was watching this, my girlfriend was simultaneously watching an old episode of the Muppet Show with Bernadette Peters, in which she sang this very same song with Kermit and Robin.

These are for Elmo being black. I don't know if that's racist or not.
