Good movie, I wish that before I watched the DVD, I knew there was a version where they don't start it with a voice-over that spoils the whole surprise.
The director's cut removes the narration. And don't blame the filmmakers. Most of the time, especially in horror/sci-fi films, the narration is the studios idea because morons usually run studios and are confused by anything even slightly outside the norm so they demand that the director insert some dumb shit to hold people's hands. The original opening narration wasn't really too bad of a spoiler, but it was unneeded for sure.
The director's cut also restores a few scenes which were removed from the theatrical release, and those scenes turn the story from simply dark to twisted. The director's cut is definitely worth watching, even/especially if you've seen the theatrical cut.
Seconded. Dark City is one of the few live action films where the blu-ray makes for a worthwhile increase in picture quality over a well up-converted dvd.
Love this movie, don't mind the voice over too much. This did however ruin Bank of America ads for me when Keifer Sutherland started doing the voice over for them. As soon as I heard the voice I expected him to start talking about The Strangers, instead he talks about banks. I was disappointed.
I adore this movie. It gets so much absolutely perfect but I just wish the last 10 minutes were different somehow... although at that late stage I'm not sure where else it could go.
