I like this movie

mouser - 2009-10-23

I might actually been interested in that movie if the trailers would have been as good as the intro.

Might be worth a second look.

chumbucket - 2009-10-23

hey you got your City Of Lost Children in my Matrix!

eatenmyeyes - 2009-10-23

You keep your Matrix off my lawn or I'll kill it with a shovel.

Goofy Gorilla - 2009-10-23

Well this was the movie that the Matrix ripped off as much as possible.

boner - 2009-10-23

Good movie, I wish that before I watched the DVD, I knew there was a version where they don't start it with a voice-over that spoils the whole surprise.

MovieCritic - 2009-10-23

Voiceovers are almost always the wrong choice for exposition.

Its a crying filmmakers don't universally know that.

MovieCritic - 2009-10-23

Crying *shame. I need more espresso.

Space Ratcatcher - 2009-10-23

I watched this yesterday on DVD, from Netflix. I too wish I had known that. Still very good, though.

StanleyPain - 2009-10-23

The director's cut removes the narration. And don't blame the filmmakers. Most of the time, especially in horror/sci-fi films, the narration is the studios idea because morons usually run studios and are confused by anything even slightly outside the norm so they demand that the director insert some dumb shit to hold people's hands. The original opening narration wasn't really too bad of a spoiler, but it was unneeded for sure.

fluffy - 2009-10-23

The director's cut also restores a few scenes which were removed from the theatrical release, and those scenes turn the story from simply dark to twisted. The director's cut is definitely worth watching, even/especially if you've seen the theatrical cut.

mantang0 - 2009-10-23

looks like i'll be ordering the bluray.. thanks

zatojones - 2009-10-23

This movie was awesome up until the last part

dieudonne - 2009-10-23

Blu-ray - extra footage, no voice-over, stunning quality.

infinite zest - 2009-10-23

and the director who Ebert liked grew up to be...

C. Eloi Marx - 2009-10-23

Seconded. Dark City is one of the few live action films where the blu-ray makes for a worthwhile increase in picture quality over a well up-converted dvd.

C. Eloi Marx - 2009-10-23

Meant to reply to the comment above.

Love this movie, don't mind the voice over too much. This did however ruin Bank of America ads for me when Keifer Sutherland started doing the voice over for them. As soon as I heard the voice I expected him to start talking about The Strangers, instead he talks about banks. I was disappointed.

Nikon - 2009-10-23

Bankers are evil.
Strangers are evil.
Bankers wear black.
Strangers wear black.

Therefore, one can posit that bankers are strangers.

Jerm - 2009-10-23

This is still my favorite movie, ten years after first seeing it.

I remember the producers forced him to add the exposition in the beginning because they were afraid the movie was too confusing for audiences.

mantang0 - 2009-10-23

I adore this movie. It gets so much absolutely perfect but I just wish the last 10 minutes were different somehow... although at that late stage I'm not sure where else it could go.

HankFinch - 2009-10-24

I've heard that a lot about the ending, but I liked it

Nikon - 2009-10-24

I like everything but the ending of the flick. I just ordered the blu-ray for extra image quality.

Sphinx - 2010-09-14

The Ebert commentary on the DVD was great. One of the few times I've actually listened to a voice-over commentary for a movie.
