Let us kill China

oddeye - 2009-11-04

Let me clarify since I realise that was a little of an over-the-top reaction.

This kind of thing doesn't really bother me when done to the average adult human (I used to work at an emergency operating theatre where drug-addicts with knife wounds and missing ears/limbs would have their pathetic lives saved) but I simply can't stand unnecessary cruelty to any animal.

I will, however, happily eat a delicious cow that has been killed in a manner that is relatively painless.

baumer - 2009-11-04

Relative to being skinned alive?

oddeye - 2009-11-04

Yes or in a way that reduces unnecessay suffering, such as a bolt through the brain.

spikestoyiu - 2009-11-04

We're also talking food vs. fur, only one of which is essential to survival. Unless you're an eskimo or some shit.

baumer - 2009-11-04

Sweet, I was afraid you wouldn't be able to condemn the Wiley Chinee while carrying on exactly as you have all your life, but it looks like you're in the clear.

baumer - 2009-11-04

Joking aside, how can you type that? I assume you're aware that meat is not in fact essential to survival, so what goes through your head when you write that?

godot - 2009-11-04

I can't watch this again (I just saw Earthlings).

China has no legal provisions for animal welfare.

More than 95% of fur clothing produced in China is sold to overseas markets. 40% of total US fur imports in 2004 came from China.

Foxes that remain conscious typically live for 5-10 minutes after being skinned.

I have absolutely no sympathy for any person whose fox fur coat is splashed with red paint by PETA.

KnowFuture - 2009-11-04

To be fair, the Chinese eat about 99.99999% of the animals they kill. Before watching a documentary a lot like this one I thought it was BS that they eat dogs and cats over there...nope, they do.
It's an uber crowded country where a lot of people are lucky to find anything to eat a lot of the time, so if it's not human and not fast enough to get away, it's dinner.

All that being said though, fuck people who wear fur.

godot - 2009-11-04

There's a growing division between the coastal cities (where some have pets) and the interior. That said, the idea that other animals can suffer like humans, or that their welfare should be considered, is still seems uncommon.

Only bare economics factor in their living conditions while alive (admittedly not much worse than in Western factory farming), and I suspect most animals are bled while conscious for slaughter.

Many vegetarian foods and meat substitutes (seitan, tofu etc) have their 1st millenium CE origin among Chinese Buddhists practicing ahimsa, and some strains of Taoism also strive to minimize suffering. So one can't make a blanket condemnation of the culture.

Big Beef Burritos Supreme - 2009-11-04

I've seen this before, and allegedly it's not representative of the fur trade as a whole, just the worst and craziest skinners.

It turns my stomach to look at this, why even post it here?

poorwill - 2009-11-04

Because it's evil?

godot - 2009-11-04

Others allege it is typical, as most Chinese fur farmers do their slaughter after unloading adjacent to wholesale markets.

Big Beef Burritos Supreme - 2009-11-04

Poorwill: it's 'evil' in name only, this isn't Ogrish.com

godot: I prefer to take the opinion that this is the worst of the worst and that even if only for convenience's sake, most farmers kill the animals they skin. Furthermore, I refuse to research this; I'm not ever buying a fur coat and I'm not playing the "who's the worst nation for animal welfare" game, so I can live without knowing.

poorwill - 2009-11-04

No shit it's not Ogrish - it wasn't posted here for us to ENJOY. It made me fucking *angry* and I learned something.

Pillager - 2009-11-04

5 for real life, high octane nightmare fuel.

baumer - 2009-11-04

5 for "I still happily eat delicious cow, though"

Adham Nu'man - 2009-11-04

Jesus christ that was horrible.

Scrotum H. Vainglorious - 2009-11-04

Why is this shit here?

Tuan Jim - 2009-11-04

For you to look at and be less of an ignorant shithead about animal cruelty.

fatatty - 2009-11-04

First the Chinese trick me into buying counterfeit Adobe products. Now this?

Fuck China.

fatatty - 2009-11-04

Also this.

RomancingTrain - 2009-11-04

First a Chinese guy tricks me into drinking his pee. Now this?

Fuck China.

fatatty - 2009-11-04

You too?!

Enough is enough China. Stop peeing on America's face or we will stop letting you lend us money!

oogaBooga - 2009-11-04

This justifies nuking their entire continent. No, that wasn't sarcastic. I'm sure we deserve to be nuked, as well - BUT THEM FIRST.

Gommorrah - 2009-11-04

a bloo bloo bloo don't show me the consequences of the underlying assumptions of my bloated consumerist lifestyle a bloo bloo blooooo *votes 1*

Reality_Unknown - 2009-11-04

Bulbed!

Also why don't they kill it? There must be some reason besides sadism.

oddeye - 2009-11-04

Yeah you are totally right, all of us go around in our sweatshop shoes and furs skinned from live animals and it doesn't bother any of us till we see the origin of our fashion on the screen. This video, for example, popped many a monocle.

Fucking idiot.

Gommorrah - 2009-11-04

THESE SAVAGE MANDARINS KILLING AND TORTURING INTELLIGENT AND FEELING CREATURES, I FIND IT DISGUSTING *eats baconator*

spikestoyiu - 2009-11-04

Jesus Christ, shut up.

baumer - 2009-11-04

Jesus Christ, baconators are essential to survival.

Hay Belly - 2009-11-04

I've never understood the "You can't say anything bad about animal suffering if you eat meat" reasoning. That's like saying all sex is wrong because of rape. Oh, look, Andrea Dworkin already said that. You agree with Dworkin you schmuck. HA HA!

Keefu - 2009-11-04

what

Keefu - 2009-11-04

in fact it's not like saying that at all you stupid shit

phalsebob - 2009-11-04

If I could, I wouldn't buy anything from China, and don't give me any free market bullshit about my freedom to buy or not buy. Every damn thing is made in China. I have attempted to boycott China, and it's not possible. I would gladly pay the extra 10 or 20 percent, but even more costly stuff is often made in China.

The one star is for a video that belongs on stile project.

Cleaner82 - 2009-11-04

Do you watch a lot of these videos Gommorah, and you only post for stupid shit like this? Or do you just sort of skim the front page now and then looking for titles that imply stupid shit like this.

Five for the raging tempest of stupid herein.

Adham Nu'man - 2009-11-04

I've never done a single thing to stop this kind of animal cruelty, and probably will continue to live my life without ever doing a single thing to try and stop it. Yet it exists, and in part it exists thanks to my not doing anything about it.

I felt the moral obligation (towards myself) to watch it, to at least aknowledge it. Not that it will make a difference, but I just felt I had to.

Now I can understand why many people don't want to watch it, and that's ok. But I don't agree with "this should be on styleproject", because I don't think the people who are five starring it here are going: "OH LOOK, DOG PWNED, FAP FAP FAP"

Anomalocaris - 2009-11-05

Yes, and you are an emaciated, repressed Palestinian who only eats leathery plants watered with the tears of martyrdom. You fat hypocritical fuck.

Adham Nu'man - 2009-11-05

And you're such an eloquent, interesting person, wherever you go the level of discourse is immediately elevated to the squeaks of two turtles fucking.

Anomalocaris - 2009-11-05

Wasn't talking to you, Adam. Was talking to the raging shitstick who started this thread. But you're welcome to cork your hole with a used buttplug anyhow.

Adham Nu'man - 2009-11-05

Oh, ok then. Cheers!

chumbucket - 2009-11-04

needs a nine inch nails soundtrack

Goofy Gorilla - 2009-11-04

.22 rounds are are four cents each, but that's cutting pretty deep into the margins, I guess.

fatatty - 2009-11-04

Meanwhile rocks are free.

Sacks5thAvenButt - 2009-11-04

Who wants to go shoot their kneecaps with me

La Loco - 2009-11-04

Oddeye, enjoy your chicken with it's relatively painless removal of beaks. I take it you don't buy meat from factory farms right?

Oh, and Spike, you'd be ok with it as long as they consumed the meat (which they probably do) as well right?

Get real kids and own your lack of respect for living things. Admit that you only feel cute or intelligent creatures deserve life and compassion.

La Loco - 2009-11-04

Supposed to be a reply to the first comments.

oddeye - 2009-11-05

Actually I don't buy chicken that has been factory farmed. When I do buy chicken (which is fairly rare as I am more of a pork man) it is corn-fed and raised properly by local farmers.

I don't do this so much as to limit the suffering of chickens but more because it just tastes so much better. In general when it comes to animal products that you eat less suffering often equates to a tastier product.

In reply to your last statement I don't believe anything inherently deserves life or compassion but that these things must be earned, as it was for us. However that doesn't mean you should be unnecessary cruel when extracting a resource.

Thanks for putting words in my mouth though, that's always a great way to make your point.

La Loco - 2009-11-10

Have we earned that?

astropod five - 2009-11-04

I think being skinned alive is going to be my biggest irrational fear now.

oddeye - 2009-11-05

It isn't irrational
