I think the phrase is "put up, or shut up" and I think Tom understood the "shut up" when you can't "put up" part.

But, yeah, ad hominem attacks are a poor man's debate tool.

Meerkat - 2009-11-07

To be fair, I think Markos was referring to Cheney, or one of the other Republicans that talk about what the veterans think without having actually served.

Tancredo just happened to be another one of them.

Meerkat - 2009-11-07

I mean seriously, you can't swing a dead cat without hitting one and having them whine about how uncivil you are going around swinging cats.

Meanwhile there's a cat in their office that's dead of blunt force trauma.

sosage - 2009-11-07

Wikipedia tells me that was a direct attack on Tancredo's past. Supposedly he was a huge Vietnam war supporter in college, then when drafted after graduation got a discharge on the grounds of suffering from depression. Again though, this is Wikipedia...so...I dunno...*shrug*?

StanleyPain - 2009-11-07

Tancredo is a piece of shit, but that was out of line. I don't really like Markos' attitude and his writing. If this had been in reverse somehow you can bet your ass Daily Kos would be all over this about how awful Tancredo was being.

futurebot - 2009-11-07

WHY, HE DID NOT EVEN OFFER TO SHAKE THE TANCREDO FELLOW'S HAND AFTER THEIR GENTLEMAN'S DISAGREEMENT

Princess v2.1 - 2009-11-07

LOL. Markos told him straight up, yo.

kingarthur - 2009-11-07

Half of me knows this is poor form and is not helpful. The other half can't help but yell, "GET 'IM, MARKOS!"

I am torn.

Modern Angel - 2009-11-07

I like how liberals get incredibly up in arms when there's a breech of manners.

FABIO - 2009-11-07

Like the endless conservative crying over being called mean names by Grayson?

Modern Angel - 2009-11-07

No, I mean that liberals eat their own because of monocle popping lack of manners. Fuck that noise. Tancredo is a shitbag. It's okay to call him a shitbag.

Bort - 2009-11-07

Tancredo lies like a rug, and storms out when someone says something true about him. This wasn't "out of line" so much as "overdue".

Desidiosus - 2009-11-08

I could have sworn Tancredo was sitting upside down for all the shit he was spewing.

phalsebob - 2009-11-07

Hey look, Tom is running away. Again.

pastorofmuppets - 2009-11-08

Oh if only Markos had said that as he got up...

RomancingTrain - 2009-11-07

37th in infant mortality? Are there even 36 first world countries?

Cena_mark - 2009-11-07

That is actually an unfair statistic, because its the individuals nations that decide what counts as a an infant death. The U.N. doesn't get the statistics themselves because they're too poor and lazy. But the U.S. standards for what counts as infant mortality are more strict than those of E.U. nations thus what counts as a dead infant in the U.S. doesn't for them.
You libs need to look past the numbers. Statistics aren't as clear cut as you think they are.

Randroid - 2009-11-07

Obama hates white children so much it is his sole goal in life to personally murder each and every one of them. Each white child that that escapes his hand is an affront to the very office of the presidency.

Toenails - 2009-11-07

Not only is Obama in the business of murdering white children (and eating them to gain their memories), but he has also decided burn every single Sesame Street muppet that could be generously described as "white".

The List includes: Bert, Oscar the Grouch, the Count, Forgetful Jones, Prairie Dawn, Grover, The Amazing Mumford, Biff the construction worker, Herry Monster, and Bob the music teacher.

Also, I have it on good authority that Obama secretly pissed in James Crowley's Blue Moon before serving it to him.

memedumpster - 2009-11-07

I think nature decides what counts as an infant death.

Also, if you put the public option under whitey's work boots the government would never have to pay out.

IrishWhiskey - 2009-11-08

"But the U.S. standards for what counts as infant mortality are more strict than those of E.U. nations"

Only in the sense that we include abortions and miscarriages, not because the quality of care with regard to infants is any higher. Also, Switzerland, Germany, and other E.U countries use the same or stricter standards, and still place higher.

HarrietTubmanPI - 2009-11-08

Cena, you are dead wrong:

http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/data/databriefs/db23.htm

" * Infant mortality rates for preterm (less than 37 weeks of gestation) infants are lower in the United States than in most European countries; however, infant mortality rates for infants born at 37 weeks of gestation or more are higher in the United States than in most European countries.
* One in 8 births in the United States were born preterm, compared with 1 in 18 births in Ireland and Finland.
* If the United States had Sweden’s distribution of births by gestational age, nearly 8,000 infant deaths would be averted each year and the U.S. infant mortality rate would be one-third lower.
* The main cause of the United States’ high infant mortality rate when compared with Europe is the very high percentage of preterm births in the United States.
"

Additionally, the report concludes that the differences in reporting are NOT the cause for the high infant mortality rate.

chumbucket - 2009-11-07

I think he ran out of dumb things to say

sosage - 2009-11-07

Tom saw his chance to get out of the debate and took it.

Rum Revenge - 2009-11-07

I wish I could demand people apologize to me every time they tell me I'm wrong.

memedumpster - 2009-11-07

This is a soldier shooting a soldier that I wholeheartedly agree with. His dignity got splattered all the hell over the place.

Xenocide - 2009-11-07

Screw civility. When you puss out of fighting in a war you yourself supported, you give up the right to lecture actual servicemen about what soldiers think. Tancredo insulted Markos first when he implied that he knows soldiers better than Markos does. All Markos did was fire back.

Tuan Jim - 2009-11-07

Exactly.

If Kerry had had the basic strength of character to call out GWB in the same way, he'd have been president.

Toenails - 2009-11-07

FOX/AM Radio pundits always cut the mic off when "the target" starts steering the argument in their favor. When it's a liberal pundit winning an argument against a conservative, the guest always throws off his mic and leaves.

The exception would have to be Orly Taitz. And in my opinion, MSNBC was being very generous in giving her a platform to ramble on incoherently before finally kicking her off the air.

Slagathor - 2009-11-07

Tancredo was a coward during Vietnam and he is a coward today.

Viator - 2009-11-08

I did not know Kos was ex-military before this. It contextualizes everything he does.

Cleaner82 - 2009-11-08

You apologize for calling me, uh, not a veteran, which I'm not. But shut up.

cognitivedissonance - 2009-11-08

Man, Ed is sure doing some clean-up to mask the reality that he's been anti-healthcare this whole time.

Caminante Nocturno - 2010-02-21

For the record, this is the same scummy guy who wants to reinstate literacy tests.
