what time does he admit something?

spencer - 2009-12-31

It slowly unfolds over the first 7 minutes or so, intercut with the interview, but he drops the bombshell at around 5:35.

Billie_Joe_Buttfuck - 2009-12-31

huh. how about that.

okay.

Billie_Joe_Buttfuck - 2009-12-31

okay, new question. why is this a thing? i can't remember any point where andrew wk was presented anti-corporation. nearest i could tell he was about rock and party.

spencer - 2009-12-31

Well, when he was purely the "party hard" guy, there were rumors about this sorta thing... that Andrew WK was this whole manufactured entity.
Here, he's admitting to it, and apparently, it goes beyond what anyone thought (ie. the fact that there's more than one person playing Andrew WK).

endlesschris - 2009-12-31

So... 5 stars if this is true. Successfully fabricating a rock star, even one with the seemingly limited success of Andrew WK, is quite a feat - especially to pull off the kind of doppleganger swapping shenanigans of 2005 with no major problems.

snothouse - 2009-12-31

I wouldn't take this at face value.

memedumpster - 2009-12-31

Happy New Year, POETV!!!

: )

j lzrd / swift idiot - 2009-12-31

"it's like, 'yeah, I could live my life as a mortal,' but where's the love?"

Sputum - 2009-12-31

This is really obviously not true, and just a publicity stunt. Andrew W.K. made a concept album about Gundam. What corporate entity has that as part of their master plan?

StanleyPain - 2009-12-31

So, he's a guy known for continuously fucking with people and people instantly believe him? Wow.

spencer - 2009-12-31

So, in response to the response to this, he's arranged an open Q & A session that'll take place in Brooklyn in February. Should be good.

spencer - 2009-12-31

Hm, didn't mean to reply to you, but while I'm here...

I don't know whether I believe him or not... or even if I want to believe him or not, and I love that. I mean, either he's admitting to being disingenuous OR he's being disingenuous in admitting he's disingenuous. Whichever it is, he's playing with his audience's notions of his authenticity and how audiences gauge and respond to a performer's authenticity in general. I don't even know if that's what he's trying to do... but that's what I take from it.

Syd Midnight - 2010-01-01

Inasmuch as Andrew WK impacts my life, whether or not this is true would have no impact on my enjoyment of his music when playing extremely violent multiplayer games. So it's either a Kaufmanesque troll or a "No Shit?".

klingerbgoode - 2011-07-16

I saw Andrew WK play bass live for Current 93! Take that as you will.
