Is that really a spoiler?

Haven't seen this, but I am going to settle with the delusion that this image flashes throughout the movie in a totally random fashion much like in Wicker Man.

funny... I thought it was quite a good representation, as far as video games to movies go.

(Credibility Check: I stopped at SH 4 enjoying the first two games the most.)

Music usage was good.
Atmosphere was good.
Barbed-Wire scene was great.

Then again I watched it for the first time whilst engaged in a massive struggle with a fever...

Therefore, I highly recommend this movie to people who haven't seen it and are suffering from high fevers!

the atmosphere and aesthetic was very well executed, but the studio-mandated tacked-on B-plot with the husband really works against it

I like this movie enough to fast-forward through all that stuff

The music usage was terrible. Slapping video game music directly onto a movie doesn't work and in this movie was extremely jarring.

Fast forward to when she gets to the town, stop watching once they reach the church.

I thought it was a great film. Easily the best videogame film i've ever seen.

I'll rate it

Movie was great (as great as a hollywood rendition is allowed to be at any rate) but I could have done without random shots of whats-his-name the actor breaking into an archive building and looking at files with absolutely no relevance to plot advancement.

Urburos - 2010-01-12

I never got to finish the first video game, but played through about 80 percent of it on a single life because the playstation was rented, had no memory card, and the wire at the back would cause random bursts of white static. For three days I had to leave it on non-stop and play only at night. It was one of the scariest playing experiences of my life.

My only gripe with the movie was that the ending didn't feature a corgi.

CornOnTheCabre - 2010-01-12

It's not good, but as far as video-game-to-film-adaptations go, it's Citizen Kane.

I love the part when the cop chases her for speeding, then her car crashes, the world turns into an apocalyptic nightmare where ash falls from the sky and covers the earth in thick layers, and the cop is completely unfazed by it.

"DAMMNIT, I'M TAKING YOU IN!!!"

Aelric - 2010-01-12

I saw this with a friend of mine who didn't play video games, went to film school, usually was a total film snob with good taste and never even heard of SH before. He loved it while I found the entire movie retarded for reasons besides the SH factor (i.e. the acting, the horrid exposition, Sean Bean), reasons a fucking film student with usually good taste should see right away.

That said, it's still the top of the pile for video game adaps.

Quad9Damage - 2010-01-12

I haven't seen this movie since it first came out on DVD, but I can remember a few things:

Using music from the video games, including vocal tracks, was stupid. I remember a driving scene where a song from Silent Hill 3 was playing on the radio.

Pyramid Head was completely unnecessary and had no reason for being in the story. He was jerk off fodder for fans.

I liked the special effects, like the Otherworld transformation scenes-- though that seems to have inspired a number of bad games that I haven't played.

Xiphias - 2010-01-12

it has some great moments but yeah, it's bad

Apparently they're doing a sequel, and like this it will be loosely based on 2. Here's hoping they do a better job of it, seeing as 2 has the best potential for a transition to film.
