It was the promised land for young people who grew up in boring small towns. New York was the same but for guys who wanted to be rough.
When I think of LA I think of bumfights happening within earshot of gated communities and mansions. I suppose in reality local police would have moved them on quickly, or at least Tasered them for their troubles.
I wore L.A. Gears. Then I switched to FILAs.
Sad part was I could still remember the "you got the Moves! LA Gear" part of the jingle just from the product name. Goddamn you ad agencies for taking up valuable space.
