This anime was alright.
4 for the religious tag.

Three for the show, -2 for the fans.

Caminante Nocturno - 2010-03-11
When you're an angry, depressed, and somewhat disassociated adolescent, this is the sort of thing that you relate to. It was like someone took all of my mental and emotional strife and stuffed one half of it into a giant robot and the other half into a temperamental redhead.
Evangelion was one of the only titles that I was willing to shell out an extra per tape for the subtitled version.
It was that important.

Hooker - 2010-03-11 I was pretty happy with Nirvana and Catcher in the Rye.
|
Lindner - 2010-03-11 What I always remember about this show is the main character nutting all over the german girl while she was in a coma.
... why was that kid allowed to pilot a giant robot?

|
Xenocide - 2010-03-11 I am pleased to learn that Caminante identified more with Asuka than Shinji. I was a little worried at the start of that post.

Is there a difference between the most 90's anime ever and the most anime anime ever?

Re the description: I wish we could!

Whatever it's faults, the original show is much more interesting than the products of GAINAX's attempts to shamlessly milk the franchise. The recent CGI "Evangelion 2.0" flick features from what I've seen lots of creepy fanservice plus an all new third female pilot who wears glasses, I guess because they weren't selling enough creepy PVC figurines to idiots East and West.

For a giant robot anime, it was the most original.

jyrque - 2010-03-11
The catchiest anime theme tune.
Minus star for ending abruptly.

MongoMcMichael - 2010-03-11
Ah, Rei Ayanami. The goofy blue dye job that launched a million faps.

Xenocide - 2010-03-11
WITH SUBTITLES!
It actually makes more sense without them.
Also: While I think this show was highly overrated, I give it major props for having the balls to admit what nerds have suspected all along: robot pilot, superhero, Jedi Knight, or what have you, would seriously fuck you up as a human being and probably result in a lifelong struggle with PTSD.

This show, along with FF7, is something that seems really deep when you're an angsty teen and looks goofy when seen today.
But it did have some awesomely surreal moments.

Man Who Fights Like Woman - 2010-03-12
The song is amazing. Too bad it ends prematurely, resulting in this lost star.

hentaiwolf - 2010-03-12
I bought this on VHS (dubbed, fuck you Caminante Nocturno) only because Gamefan gave it an A+. And 13 tapes later I still get pissed when fanboys complain about how fanboys are complaining about the anime companies ripping them off.

phalsebob - 2010-03-12
Possibly the worst thing ever that doesn't kill you.
|
sosage - 2010-03-12
...and here I thought Akira was the most 90's anime ever.
|
Nikon - 2010-03-14 Akira came out in 1989.

Goethe and ernie - 2010-03-12
Watching that has been my first brush with Neon Genesis Evangelion. I can't five star someone else's nostalgia, nor am I ever going to watch this, so uhh... ghost stars?

I loved this show as a teenager. I still love it today. Even though the new version is pretty it doesn't even come close to the first.
