When people stop asking the question"What is beyond the universe?" they enter a natural prison of their own mind.

When people start asking "What came before God?" they commit blasphemy!

Bonus star for "When you use logic, you're borrowing from the theistic worldview."

And 5 more for the mystery of how that means atheism is a mental disorder.

Udderdude - 2010-03-15

I done got edumacated.

Riskbreaker - 2010-03-15

Yeah, why do people bothers trying to find out about the world in which we live. We should all just sat down and never bother understanding this universe at all. So we can all go back and throw virgins into volcanos everytime it stops raining.

IrishWhiskey - 2010-03-15

I agree that feeling apathy toward the big questions in life is a sad situation. But its not nearly as bad as feeling hostility toward those who try to answer them.

You could replace the word "Naturalism" with "Supernaturalism" or "Religion", and you'd have an equally stupid atheist rant. There's nothing substantive to the argument other than strawmen and name-calling.

Except that faith is generally bad for everyone's health sooner or later.

pastorofmuppets - 2010-03-16

The thing to take away from this is that curiosity is good, but only just enough that you stop being curious immediately after being told what to think.

Son of Slam - 2010-03-15

"Nudism is a form of naturalism"

Oh honey, no.

Yes, there are crimes against logic being committed, but I don't think he's aware of who the true perpetrator is.

Also, the concept of zero is a "pagan" invention. Does that mean every time you balance your checkbook you're blaspheming?

phalsebob - 2010-03-15

I missed the nudism bit.

Anyway, I love all these Wile E. Coyote-build-a-rickety-bridge arguments. One vaguely plausible proposition tacked haphazardly on to another and so on and so on, until I wonder why he is constructing such a thing. Just walk over the cliff and hang there in mid air by the power of pure ignorance without all the hassle.

Science cannot explain every single thing about the universe including its origins and the meaning of life in an easily explainable, instantaneous fashion, so clearly the only alternative is to believe in a magical sky-man who watches you and makes everything.

SDAusmus - 2010-03-15

For the "An error occurred, please try again later." message I got.

Thank you, Jesus!

memedumpster - 2010-03-15

You can lead a horse to Google, but you can make them link.

pastorofmuppets - 2010-03-16

That's pretty rockin'.

Koda Maja - 2010-03-15

"As the bible declares, the universe is expanding."

I guess I missed that bit in Sunday school.

IrishWhiskey - 2012-09-21

God stretched the firmament over the earth. The firmament being a dome with holes that let in rain and the earth being young, flat, on pillars, and orbited by the sun.

Now, if you if ignore absolutely all of that except "stretched", and then rewrite it to mean "continuously expanding", then yes, the Bible does say that.

Sad part is that even if you interpret some parts of the Old Testament as accurate, it doesn't help. Other cultures incorporated guesses or observations into their creations stories which were also accurate. It's like looking at that X-Files episode which predicted 9/11, and assuming Mulder and the Lone Gunmen are real.
