For whatever weirdo reason, this year I was walloped by an awful sinus infection. After a few trips to the GP, I was told that I'd have to continue using a nasal steroid as long as the symptoms last. At worst it's an inconvenience, but whatever: it works and I feel better. A friend also gave me a neti pot which he had never used, so I figured I'd give it a whirl. I have to say that there's a notable difference when using the neti pot in conjunction with the nasal spray. I don't know exactly what's going on, but I can't argue with the results.

I believe the solution also acts as a disinfectant as well as cleaning out snot and boogers. As such, with regular use you probably have less nasty organisms in there that don't get caught in said snot and boogers awaiting a chance to make you sick or cause a sinus infection.

Isn't the snot supposed to trap all that shit so you don't breathe it in?

In any case the maker of this product probably doesn't have to prove any claims, unless (maybe) they start making claims about curing specific diseases or reducing your risk of cancer or whatever.

I don't think it's a miracle health treatment, like I've hard a lot of people describe it as, but if you have serious allergies or are prone to sinus infections that almost always turn into bronchitis and, occasionally, pneumonia (as I am), using a neti pot regularly will probably make a bit of a difference for you. Even if it is a gross, pain in the ass thing to do, and you end up having to modify the salt-water ratio to keep the solution from burning the insides of your fucking head.

Also, all these people grinning at the camera while saline and gunk stream out their noses is nothing short of disturbing. You win, Video.

how are breathe right strips a gimmick? those dont even treat the same thing as a neti pot. i use them not infrequently because i have allergies and they help to keep my nasal passages open making it easier to sleep. i don't have any excess mucus in my sinus, they just get slightly inflamed, making the passage smaller. even right now my sinuses are a little constricted and i can just pull on the sides of my nose a little and i instantly breathe easier. i can't imagine how a breathe right strip would help with congestion or a sinus infection.

I have severe, severe allergies and I'm prone to sinus infections that turn into ear infections, and I use the Neti-Pot religiously. Works for me.
