It's not so bad... if you assume it's meta-commentary on the genre, it would seem...

takewithfood - 2010-07-01
It currently has 6% at Rotten Tomatoes.
Chibisuke - 2010-07-01
It doesn't look that bad from the trailers, but I've never even seen the cartoon, so who knows. I don't see how it could possibly be worse than the Dragonball movie though.
Caminante Nocturno - 2010-07-01 I haven't seen the Avatar movie, but I have seen the Dragonball movie, and even if Avatar manages to be worse, it won't be nearly as embarrassing for the actors.
IrishWhiskey - 2010-07-01
The trailers tricked me into thinking it might be good. Well, at least this might finally get Shyamalan off our screens. Stars for the guy who now regrets shaving his head.
From Rotten Tomatoes:
"It's rare to see a film so choppily edited, poorly scripted and spastically directed that you can barely understand what you're watching."

Chibisuke - 2010-07-01 I did forget dungeons and dragons. THANKS A LOT FOR REMINDING ME ASSHOLE.

CapnJesusHood - 2010-07-01
Is the fedora-nerd doing a Lewis Black impression? What's wrong with him?
Xenocide - 2010-07-01 That's not an impression. Fedora nerds just have a lot of anger.
Caminante Nocturno - 2010-07-01 He's a failed Yahtzee prototype that escaped the lab and now roams the land getting angry at things.

spikestoyiu - 2010-07-01
This is what you get for seeing an M Night Shyamalan movie based on a kid's cartoon.
spikestoyiu - 2010-07-02 This is where I say I liked "Unbreakable." But tell anyone about that and I will murder you with my bare hands.
yeahjim - 2010-07-01
I enjoyed the throw-away bashing of the Twilight fans' taste.
Rodents of Unusual Size - 2010-07-01
Wait, they got the main character's name wrong? That is hilarious.
Does Shyamalan have a coke addiction?
FABIO - 2010-07-01 People had to bring a lot to a brand new movie that broke from the current sci-fi trends in order to enjoy it because the complex character of Luke Han Leia and Chewy wouldn't be fully explored until later?
...what?
Mike Jordan - 2010-07-02 I stand by it. I have no idea how many of these they plan to make, but there is obviously a lot of story left to tell. There are half a dozen or more major characters in this movie, and there wasn't enough time to develop them.
It's going to be more difficult to make them interesting because you have to exaggerate the persona of a character who is 14 years old and is fighting grown men to the death.
Regardless of quality, the feeling of being thrown in to an unfamiliar universe where new concepts were thrown around in abundance with no real explanation was a familiar feeling.
Aang and Dev Patel could turn out to be quality characters in the long run, at least by children's movie standards.
What am I doing?
CapnJesusHood - 2010-07-02 I don't know, but you should probably shut up.
Udderdude - 2010-07-01
I have nothing to add but "The last dongbender" would be a more fitting and comical title. That is all.
RomancingTrain - 2010-07-01
Did they call him Avatar for the whole movie or did they just mispronounce Aang?
cognitivedissonance - 2010-07-01
The Happening was a delightful atrocity against subtlety, taste and audience stamina.
This just looks dreadful.
FABIO - 2010-07-01
Not to place any faith in M. Sham, but listening to these people is why most comic/cartoon movies suck.
Xenocide - 2010-07-01 I think you're confused. These people don't make the cartoons, they just watch them. Their costumes do not give them the power to reach into the film and change its content, although I'm sure they think they do.
FABIO - 2010-07-02 Frothing hardcore fans of adapted material most certainly do affect the final movie. It's why studios are deathly afraid of changing the slightest detail about the source material, even if it would otherwise make a better or more coherent movie.
StanleyPain - 2010-07-01
wow...they filmed this downtown here....
why?
Caminante Nocturno - 2010-07-01
It's heartbreaking to see the younger generations learn the same hard lessons we did with movies like Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat.
It's even more heartbreaking to know that we could have imparted our wisdom to them before this happened, but we just didn't try hard enough.
People, we have failed to teach our children.
oddeye - 2010-07-01 Let them make their own mistakes CN.
SolRo - 2010-07-01 Fuck you, mortal kombat and (to a lesser extent) Street Fighter (original) were awesomely campy. This thing just seems terrible.
Riskbreaker - 2010-07-01 I agree with oddeye, and a little bit with SolRo. These kids need to walk the harsh road of seeing your favorite franchises dragged down the mud.

Candlejackv616 - 2010-07-02 P.S.
In regards to The Last Airbender, its pretty sad considering how much of a rich fantasy world the cartoon was set in and interesting characters which were fleshed out surprisingly well for a "kids" cartoon, lot more depth than i expected when I got into the series.
Its as if M.Night watched the damn show with the sound off, and even then wtf is up with the color in this film? its looks murky as hell.
RomancingTrain - 2010-07-02 What are you talking about? Most of the people in this video were old enough to see Mortal Kombat in theaters.
Cena_mark - 2010-07-01
I'm disappointed. I knew I would be. I haven't seen the movie yet, and I probably still will because I'm a mark. But I knew that fucking curry eating one hit wonder would fail.
mashedtater - 2010-07-01 i cant....thats a massive amount of offensive in that little comment. getting your second wind?
Cena_mark - 2010-07-01 I didn't say anything racist. He's an Indian, its not a race its a nationality. I can safely assume he eats curry. Sheesh, you libs pull racism out of nowhere.
SolRo - 2010-07-02 shut up, you cousin fucking retard.
(conservatives aren't a race, they are a blight)
tamago - 2010-07-02 My favourite part is where you claim you said nothing racist and then immediately say something racist in the next sentence.
You are still the master of trolling.
spikestoyiu - 2010-07-02 Quit replying to this mayonnaise and black olive eating motherfucker.
fatatty - 2010-07-02 I used to think mayonnaise eating was a good insult for white people after watching Undercover Brother and noting my own white family's love of it. But after working in a sandwich shop for a few years I noticed the only people who ever ordered extra mayonnaise were black people. It really changed my view of the world and race relations.

RocketBlender - 2010-07-02
My favorite part is about 3/4 the way in, where after so many people bash it, the Twilight fan saying she liked The last airbender better.
NewHeavenSalesman - 2010-07-02
why are all these people cosplaying iroh with the wrong costumes
frau_eva - 2010-07-02 Did you know that movie!Iroh drinks COFFEE?
MOTHERFUCKING COFFEE. SO MUCH RAGE.
RocketBlender - 2010-07-02 I don't know much about avatar, but from what I understand, you should be happy s/he was actually in the movie.
Hooker - 2010-07-02
I didn't even realize this was based on a cartoon until today.
IrishWhiskey - 2010-07-02 I saw a few episodes recently. Although I don't see what all the fuss is about, it definitely would have been one of my favorite shows as a kid. Its no 'Rocko's Modern Life', but then, what is?
Hailey2006 - 2010-07-30
My mom liked it, you know that's a bad sign!
