All AK models can fire single, or auto. There is a modified version of the AK-74 that is used as a mid-range sniper system with a x5 scope.

For an AK to be legal in most parts of the US, it has to be modified to single shot using a US made parts kit.

I was extremely proud of my single shot AK variant (Bulgarian SLR-95, if you must know), until my lawyer brother sold it for money for drugs.

It's actually quite amazing. He's got the actual action of an AK-47 (gas rod/bolt, rock and lock magazine). If them little blocks blew back it probably actually WOULD be machine gun.
