the trailer seems pretty faithful to the source material

FABIO - 2010-07-24

The source material seems pretty faithful to 28 Days Later.

revdrew - 2010-07-24

Which was pretty faithful to Day of the Triffids.

freedoom - 2010-07-24

it doesn't rip off 28 days later, 28 days later takes place in England. The walking dead takes place in America.

Candlejackv616 - 2010-07-24

Plus 28 Days Later = Not zombies, Walking Dead = Zombies.

All in all I look forward to seeing this, as I dig slow zombies (and the comic this is based off of for that matter) plus Greg Nicotero is doing the Zombie effects which is always welcome.

Hooper_X - 2010-07-24

To be completely fair, Walking Dead was in development at about the same time as 28 Days Later, and the similarities are apparently completely unintentional.

Five stars because hey, Lennie James! He's one of my favorite character actors.

An extra star for it being shot in Atlanta.

Minus one star for driving down a fucking two-lane country road and saying you're coming down Interstate 85.

seriouslyuguys - 2010-07-24

Seconding the how can you film in Atlanta and think 85 is two lanes wide sentiment. About a mile south of where I'm sitting right now it's 16 lanes.

WHO WANTS DESSERT - 2010-07-24

Slow zombies vs Fast zombies is the absolutely worst kind of movie sperging. Horror is one of the most boring, incestuous genres of film around and everytime somebody tries something new and exciting the old guard jump up and shit on it.

Candlejackv616 - 2010-07-24

Wait whos shitting on it? I merely said I prefer slow zombies, I never said I outright hate the "fast" kind. Hell I play L4D like crazy and I never had a problem with the zombies in that, nor for that matter the fast ones in recent films.

That said I havent liked every fast zombie movie, but thats more out of dislike for other aspects of the films than anything else, usaully story related or how the zombies look.

Personally I just find the slow horde of hundreds to thousands walking the streets scarier, but I can enjoy those parkour variants too, just depends on the quality of the film.

FABIO - 2010-07-25

The problem with slow zombies is that it means people only die when they do incredibly stupid shit. It means people will be spending the entire movie tripping over furniture (I don't think there was a single death in Land of the Dead that wasn't tripping over furniture). From what I remember reading this comic, every death was from characters walking up to a dark doorway then turning their back to it. Asking for a little suspension of disbelief is hardly sperging.

spoilers

Is this movie going to end where the comic should have, once they reach the prison? Because holy shit were those shitty arcs after that.

Paracelsus - 2013-05-20

Very late to the party here, but having watched and enjoyed the series dived right into the comic. Ugh.

IMHO, there's half-a-point to it and a tiresome gimmick.

The half-a-point to be made about small group dynamics under pressure is a good one.

The gimmick where the story eventually descends into "Hey, betcha didn't think I'd kill THAT character off!" is beyond boring.

cognitivedissonance - 2010-07-24

Tony Moore is a friend of mine. I'm sworn to secrecy as to the exact details of why he left the comic, but it involved a nude fist-fight.

Cat_Mech - 2010-07-24

NEWSFLASH: the AMC website has the first chapter of the comics, done in 'slightly moving animated comic book style' (like the Watchmen one that came out around the same time as the movie) at their website.

I'm not sure how much they are planning on doing, but it's good enough to be worth checking out. If everyone already knows that, my apologies.

Also: can't wait for this. It won't be as good as it could be (I'd almost bet money they alter what happens at the prison- you know what I'm talking about) but it's about damned time their was a zombie TV show.

Also: World War Z is officially going to be awesome. They are filming the stories of the apocalypse around the entire planet, not just Yonkers and the US.

Hooper_X - 2010-07-25

I still think World War Z should be done as a fake History Channel special, with intentionally cheap "reenactments", interviews with crazy old dudes and college professors who are SO EXCITED somebody cares, and those maps with the colored lines that represent troop movements.

Either that, or shot on video, performed entirely by middle schoolers, and presented as a class pageant from 2085.

Koda Maja - 2010-07-25

Ken Burns' World War Z.
