1. This is directed by David Fincher, one of the best directors working today

2. Zuckerberg has said he does not approve of this film and wished they wouldn't have made it

Scrotum H. Vainglorious - 2010-09-04

500 million narcissistic assholes and Justin Timberlake.

a flaming monkey - 2010-09-04

I feel like throwing up.

WHO WANTS DESSERT - 2010-09-04

This movie looks fucking awesome and it's a shame too many people are hung on showing how they're too cool for Facebook to appreciate it.

"I don't have a Facebook" is the new "I don't own a television"

Urkel Forever - 2010-09-04

I don't have a Facebook, nor do I own a television, so I am either uber-hip or an uber-douche. I'm guessing the latter!

RocketBlender - 2010-09-04

I hate to admit it, but facebook is actually pretty useful. I have a friend in the peace corps in the Ukraine, and facebook and email are easily the most cost effective way to keep in touch with him, and browsing his gallery of photos from the Ukraine and commenting on them with his other friends and family is a lot nicer than him mailing me bundles of photos and me replying back with individual comments about each one.

That said, I think all this 'like' bullshit is dumb and every single one of those farmvilles and frontier worlds can go fuck themselves. I block that shit just to keep from having to hear people's constant requests.

baleen - 2010-09-04

I don't own a television or have a facebook because I think both things are a poor use of technology, but I'm happy that you enjoy these things.

oddeye - 2010-09-04

I had a face book with like 2 friends. Basically I don't have one anymore because no one likes me.

Meerkat - 2010-09-04

I signed up to friend this one guy I work with because he had no other friends and then people from high school that I was trying to forget about started trying to friend me and I had to make it so nobody could see me but the guy with no friends.

a flaming monkey - 2010-09-05

Facebook is definitely a more efficient means of stalking people. This movie still looks like it will suck. Just saying.

fluffy - 2010-09-05

I have Facebook but barely ever log in because it's so much work to keep up with, and then people make important announcements on it which I don't hear about until like two months later because they "already told me" on Facebook. Also I don't like how Facebook tries to stalk all my online activity and automatically connect to every single fucking site that I go to.

I also hate how Facebook has become the de-facto "walled garden" that everyone wants to use to communicate with each other. Perfectly good web communities are being gutted because people have decided they'd rather it be a facebook group. It feels like Facebook has all the makings of a cult dynamic that cause people to become recruiters for it, and it has an insidious and toxic viral effect on the rest of the Internet.

From the trailers this movie looks like it might actually go into pretty good detail about all the shady bullshit that Facebook does and I hope that it causes more people to think twice about moving all their online activity to it.

Aelric - 2010-09-05

I have a facebook and use it a lot, but here in Korea it's the defacto means of communication between foreigners in this country. I rarely used it before coming here and I doubt I'll use it to the same extent once I leave.

kwash - 2010-09-05

I use facebook as a way to keep up with my friends, and I'm on it at least once a day. It's efficient, it's great for event planning, and very easy to use.

That said, yes it's very popular at the moment, but so was Myspace once. So was Xanga and Livejournal. And who doesn't remember when 95% of people using the internet were using AOL?

bongoprophet - 2010-09-05

if you've ever have travelled or moved it is a great way to keep in touch with people, it's also a great way of keeping track of birthdays and parties and frankly, if you block all the shitty app-spam I can't see a single bad thing about it.

other than stealing like and hour of my day each day

WHO WANTS DESSERT - 2010-09-05

If you've never read The Accidental Billionaires then that is what this movie is going to be like; it's not about the founding of Facebook so much as it is about a gigantic douche who teams up with an even bigger douche to become filthy rich by stepping on everybody who's ever helped him get to where he was.

memedumpster - 2010-09-05

I hope one day facebook is used to round people up and put them in camps, that way I can stand far back, point, and laugh, at all its users as they are marched to trains.

I am that big of a douche, and I love it. Facebook : you get what you deserve, every time.

TeenerTot - 2010-09-05

I don't have a Facebook, but it's only because I'm paranoid about people keeping tabs on me.

Scrotum H. Vainglorious - 2010-09-05

Facebook is a tool created by design, by the NWO, to keep tabs on you.

sosage - 2010-09-06

I use Facebook to take care of virtual cows and to sustain an avenue of guilt I didn't have before, via ignoring friend requests from people I don't want to know outside of high school/work.

Riskbreaker - 2010-09-04

INTERNET DRAMA

Knuckles - 2010-09-05

Word on the street is they REALLY wanted Michael Cera for the Zuckerburg role but he turned it down, so they cast the poor man's Michael Cera for it instead. The same thing happened with Zombieland. Basically there's a guy in Hollywood whose only utility is being the second chair awkward introvert.

drcrypt - 2010-09-05

Uh, Jesse Eisenberg isn't "the poor man's Michael Cera." It's vice versa. Eisenberg is easily more talented, has a broader range and has chosen better projects to work on than Cera.

kennydra - 2010-09-05

Zombieland would have fucking sucked with michael cera, so shut up. and i love michael cera, too.

FABIO - 2010-09-05

I was late to the Arrested Development party. It was funny, but it was still hard to get into because I kept imagining a typical Arrested Development fan leaning over my shoulder telling me how the world is too stupid to enjoy it and how I should go see every movie with Michael Cera no matter how fucking awful it is.

WHO WANTS DESSERT - 2010-09-05

Word on the street is that people will believe any moronic lie so long as it supports their worldview.

StanleyPain - 2010-09-05

Pretty disappointed Fincher is wasting his time with this shit. I mean, jesus, Facebook only opened in 2004, the dust hasn't even settled yet, do the douchebags who developed it really deserve a movie made about them ALREADY?
Oh wait, you're also making movies based on a book trilogy that's as new as 2005? And they're remakes of perfectly fine Swedish movies that aren't even barely 2 years old?
Nevermind.

fluffy - 2010-09-05

yeah he should go back to making overly-quotable movies based on crappy underground novels and ridiculously-plotted things about paranoid introverts with too much money

FABIO - 2010-09-05

Fight Club the movie was amazing considering how shitty the source material was, so props for that.

Se7en was pretty good I guess.

The rest?......

Riskbreaker - 2010-09-05

The Game is a solid movie, quite underrated.

sosage - 2010-09-05

The back story of most Internet related start ups are not interesting enough for 120 minutes. POETV on the other hand...

Dicknuts - 2010-09-05

People have really strong opinions about shit that doesn't matter at all.

Spit Spingola - 2010-09-05

Something about the lighting all that Harvard crap makes it look like a movie that's supposed to take place 70 years ago.

La Loco - 2010-09-05

I use fb every day but I don't give a shit about the douche bags that created it. Also, pablo honey came out when today's college freshmen were babies.

Kilo147 - 2010-09-09

I would be honored to have you on my facebook.

Timothy A. Bear - 2010-09-05

because this is a movie about FACEBOOK

FABIO - 2010-09-05

Looks like they're taking a potentially interesting "young college students hit a gold mind using genius smarts and strike it rich" story and giving it the exact same boring boilerplate treatment they gave 21.

FABIO - 2010-09-12

Oh god it's even the same author as 21.
