STUPIDITY FOR REPORTERS

That guy pretty much summed up US politics in my lifetime.

Old_Zircon - 2010-09-12

-1 star fir the distinct lack of running away like a baby and abundance of fat douchebag strutting around like a C grade backyard wrestler, soaking in the most attention he'll get in his life. This was pretty much a flawless victory for him.

Toenails - 2010-09-12

The Westboro Baptist Church members are pretty pissed about this also. They didn't get any of the life-sustaining attention from burning a Qu'ran two years ago, nor did they get any this year for burning the holy book AND the American flag on Sept. 11th.

Shirley tries to salvage the fail of a media-whoring event:

"We get e-mails when things are happening here," she said. "We've had just a huge upsurge in e-mails. Plus, it's all over the Internet. It's all over Twitter."

elm axo - 2010-09-12

man up indeed.

pastorofmuppets - 2010-09-12

This man knows how to use the press. I suspect that Quartuvlarry ate a smaller, smarter man.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2010-09-12

There will be a retaliatory flag burning. Followed, I suppose, by a retaliatory cross burning.

Assholes inflaming other assholes, making the whole world swollen and itchy.

memedumpster - 2010-09-12

More permanent evidence that on 9-11 Al Qaeda destroyed the United States.

spikestoyiu - 2010-09-12

But I JUST saw a bumper sticker that read WE STAND UNITED! Are you trying to tell me that a bumper sticker lied to me?

Toenails - 2010-09-12

While I stand by this man's right to make a statement (and a springboard to launch a successful career stating hateful opinions on FOX), I do not support his inability to get a open burning permit from the local fire department.

fluffy - 2010-09-12

But getting a permit would have required giving MONEY to the GOVERNMENT.

Aelric - 2010-09-12

I just have to wonder where the world would be without religion. I suspect we would already be living in a glorious space empire by now.

wtf japan - 2010-09-12

In order to have a glorious space empire, one must first develop science. In order to develop science, one must find a way to convince people that a single, rational god created an ordered universe whose laws were discoverable by man. One must then convince these people to materially support an organization comprised of ascetics who spend all of their time playing intellectual hide-and-seek with this god instead of making tangible contributions to society.

Frustrating as religion can be, God is the FDIC of Western Civilization. You and I do not want to be around when everyone finally realizes we've run out of opium.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2010-09-13

Um or not.

Seriously, if everyone was atheist, we wouldn't have goals as a civilization?

oddeye - 2010-09-13

Religion is the best way to form a space empire.

standard8mm - 2010-09-13

We wouldn't have a glorious space empire with or without religion. There were always be bureaucracy and governments that stand in way. Or assholes like Thomas Edison.

pastorofmuppets - 2010-09-13

Also, the speed of light is kind of a dick.

wtf japan - 2010-09-14

I didn't say we wouldn't have goals. We just wouldn't have civilization as we know it. This is a fairly simple historical concept. You can't climb the tech tree without religion. Sorry.

If everyone suddenly became an atheist, and we were able to keep all of the good things that came about as a result of religion, that would still be terrible. Entire continents of oppressed, miserable people would no longer have a way to understand or justify their misery. That would put a halt on "progress" just as effectively as anything else, since developed countries are only developed insofar as they rely on and maintain economic and social inequities.

"It will be a calamitous night, when man finally sees the truth. And an hour of delusion, when he believes in the rationality of the human race." ~Bertolt Brecht

ItsAboutTime - 2010-09-12

Class A++ trolling

Cena_mark - 2010-09-12

Why do liberals get so uptight over a "Burn a Qu' ran day" when in the Islamic World every day is Burn an Infidel Day?

Herr Matthias - 2010-09-12

Yeah, liberals like David Petraeus.

Cena_mark - 2010-09-12

David Patraeus opposes the burning of Qu'arns for the welfare of the soldiers, for for fear of offending the savages.
Plus we don't need to burn Qu'rans cause we're better than them. Granted we'd still be better than them even if we did burn a ton of Qu'rans, but it makes us that much better.

Monkey Napoleon - 2010-09-12

PEOPLE get uptight about burn a Qu'ran day because it's a moronic hillbilly sentiment made from a mindset of willfull ignorance.

pastorofmuppets - 2010-09-13

because it's a pretty transparent attempt at scraping together a few more republican votes for november, and the families of the (actual) victims of 9/11 asked them not to do it

Cena_mark - 2010-09-13

Rodents: You're right about book burning. It is stupid. However part of me wishes it went down because its failure shows that the Islamic world can run to our free media, whine, threaten, and get their way. It'd be like another "Everybody Draw Mohammad Day"

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2010-09-15

Thank you for admitting that book burning is essentially wrong. That was big of you.

I understand about wanting to piss off people that tell you not to do something you consider benign ala Draw Muhammad Day but I think the connotations are much different and if not burning fucking books keeps troops safer I think that is a very small thing to acquiesce to.

mudl - 2010-09-12

1 stars for book burning in the digital age.

rawelkij - 2010-09-13

I don't think you understand how ratings work. Or did you expect him to smash a Kindle?

Fezren - 2010-09-13

This guy is my hero.

I relished watching this fellow burn that Qu'ran in the face of all those protesters.

Fuck liberal attention whore protesters who make dissimilar comparisons to Hitler and Nazism, fuck anybody who thinks they have a right to not be offended, and most of all FUCK RELIGION.

Also a big FUCK YOU to David Patraeus. Apparently oil and non-existent WMD's are enough of a reason for thousands of US military casualities, but not the actual freedoms they always say they are fighting for.

pastorofmuppets - 2010-09-13

he wasn't making a general statement about religion. he thinks sharia law is coming and it's totally confirmed by the fact that his local greasy spoon employs a woman who wears a head-covering.

this is who put on the rally: http://atlasshrugs2000.typepad.com/

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2010-09-13

So the Army should fight FOR our right to burn books, because that is the wisest choice?

Or maybe Petraeus was making a valid point in that this will not accomplish anything.

That guy - 2012-04-15

Pastor and ROUS are two of my favorite commenters, I'm late to the party, and the video won't play, and I grant that the actual fat douchebag is a fat douchebag -- but I have to side with Ferzen and others here.

We absolutely need "Burn a _____ Day" as well as "Lampoon a _____ Day", across the board. No set of beliefs or value system is beyond criticism or mockery.

As far as Islam, worldwide, on this issue, the double-standards are outrageous.
Out-fucking-rageous.
