I got this out of the hopper for you yokels.
For those of you that aren't familiar with northeast Kansas, this was played on a Lawrence station 105.9 The Lazer every Halloween. I taped it one year and listened to it off a cassette tape until the power of the internet told me that it's actually from a video game "The Dark Eye".
I'm guessing the game is pretty good and you should probably check it out.
Anyways. Happy Halloween everyone.

holy fuck sound quality

|
Ursa_minor - 2010-10-31 Ignorance?
The sound quality is fucked.
Alright alright, only a dick gives Burroughs and Poe two stars, but for some reason hyper compressed and distorted things get my goat. It was a kneejerk reaction.
Buuut, I can't take those two stars back now.
|
Toenails - 2010-10-31 No actually, Ursa is right.
The sound quality is completely shit. My cassette tape is a hundred times better. I hold no ill will against poor rating because of the sound quality and encourage folks with superior sources to update the link with them.
Oh and if anyone hasn't been able to understand youtube, there's actually a second part. It's sound quality is pretty shitty also. I didn't link the second page because poeTV hasn't let me multi-submit since 2007.
|
Ursa_minor - 2010-10-31 Bah, I'm sorry for fucking up the rating on this, toenails. It was totally just a "Aw man I wanna listen to this but can barely understand it" kneejerk rating.
|
Toenails - 2010-10-31 If you want to really make it up to me, vote the resubmit up and make it so it's on the main page.
That version is way superior to what I submitted. And the fact that's it's audio only makes me livid in not submitting the version in the first place. The mind's eye is superior in every way to the pictures my version has to offer.
Ursa, I vote 1-star on my own videos on a whim. The fact that you listened to this and had an opinion makes me happy. You could vote 1-star on everything I submit from now on and I would take it as as complement. Happy Halloween, I just hope that one of my favorite traditions of the month is something that you pick up.

Johnny Madhouse - 2010-10-31 Man, Ursa, my apologies. I had a kneejerk reaction of my own and it was stupid.

Well, I thought it was perfectly listenable, and a fresh take on my favorite Poe story. They've always got somebody British or "Shakespearean" reading Poe, trying to find something musical in his prose, which, as far as I can tell, just isn't there. To the 20th century reader (last time I read poe it was the 20th century) he is one ridiculously wordy son of a bitch. Burroughs ' reading doesn't try to transcend or overcome this. I can enjoy the story... it's a great story! It doesn't need some actor trying trying to turn it into great poetry or great drama.
