According to highly researched YouTube documentaries, politicians do indeed pass through a membrane from another reality.

Nikon - 2010-11-04

This is a nice strong drink to wash down the 2010 elections with.

fluffy - 2010-11-04

Or instead of not voting you could try going into politic. But what's the fun in that?

Oscar Wildcat - 2010-11-04

Sort of goes with the selfish, ignorant, and greedy thing he mentioned earlier. Can't argue with his assessment of the problem though. When a monkey stares into a mirror, no saint stares back out.

pastorofmuppets - 2010-11-04

I really got this bit. Says he's not going to complain about politicians, then does so. Assumes all politicians suck, then wonders where the good ones are (what are you, a politician?). Then he says the main problem is that Americans are lazy... "so on election day, I stay home."

He's always been dead wrong about this. I don't vote for every little thing, but if you benefit at all from living in a somewhat (healthy) democracy, you might want to give back by, say, spending 5 minutes once every two fucking years to keep it healthy.

pastorofmuppets - 2010-11-04

*never really got

pastorofmuppets - 2010-11-04

*he always was

If you're interested in hearing the heterodox argument on voting: http://www.cnbc.com/id/39970869/

Given the comments, it doesn't seem to be a very popular train of thought.

Old_Zircon - 2010-11-04

I think his point is that if all you do to "keep it healthy" is spend 5 minutes voting every 2 years, you shouldn't be surprised when you get what's coming to you, politically.

I don't fully agree with him, but that's more about me being essentially optimistic than about him being wrong.

Wander - 2010-11-04

George Carlin has ALWAYS been more funny than he is right. His whole act is saying things we all feel emotionally, but that don't actually make sense logically.

StanleyPain - 2010-11-04

It's kind of dumb to assume that everything that comes out of a comedians mouth is meant to be taken seriously and/or as some sort of life advice. Since they're, you know, telling jokes.

pastorofmuppets - 2010-11-04

If you don't vote, you don't get to complain.

(We took a vote on it, but you stayed home. Remember?)

pastorofmuppets - 2010-11-04

...and yeah, I know that the author of that blog thinks that "you don't get to complain" is somehow countered by the first amendment.

In case you're reading this, dear blogger, here is how free speech works. The federal government is prevented from passing laws restricting speech. (Well, some kinds of speech, except in certain cases. Whatever.) Anyway, the point is that calling someone a hypocrite is not OMG CENSORSHIP since I AM NOT THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT. Good grief.

Anaxagoras - 2010-11-04

What? He doesn't complain about politicians; he complains about the group that produces them. (i.e. the public) Neither does he assume politicians suck; he's stating an observational fact. And he doesn't wonder where the good ones are; he merely asks that rhetorical question in order to illustrate that there aren't any out there.

pastorofmuppets - 2010-11-04

Fuck rhetoric. There are people in this country old enough to remember being actively kept from the polls. They have every right to feel disenfranchised, but you bet your ass they go out and vote. Being old and white and too cool to smell your own bullshit isn't a reason.

Toenails - 2010-11-04

George Carlin is able to make a pretty absurd argument seem palatable because he was a great comedian.

I don't believe he actually practiced what he "preached" in this case.

Hay Belly - 2010-11-04

You're one of those guys who likes Jeff Dunham, huh?

Caminante Nocturno - 2012-06-29

George Carlin was dead wrong about this.
