Having a New Orleans-themed Six Flags opening up in New Orleans is like if one of the Las Vegas city-themed hotels decided to open up a branch in the original city it's patterned after.

cognitivedissonance - 2010-11-13

As is the case with most Six Flagses, it wasn't always a Six Flags.

The Mardi Gras ride looks fairly well done, but it's always amazing to me to look at the floor plans of dark rides to see how small they actually are. The post-Katrina video really does emphasize this.

New Orleans tourist traps are often themed in exactly the same way. Honestly, we need more than a tourist and convention center economy down here.

Or like Disneyland opening up a California themed park. Oh... wait.... they actually did that.

Places like this are for tourists who aren't interested in the real city. Like the people that will eat at a Paris McDonald's.

Shut the fuck up romantic train

I drive past the rotting hulk of this park off I-10, and I've always wondered what it was like before the storm. It's on the East side of town on the way to Slidell, and everything around it is desolate and strange.

Big Name Celebrity - 2010-11-15

I remember it as being very suburban, more Slidell than East N.O. I think there was a good chunk of the Vietnamese community in the area. Not much in the way of business or tourist stuff in the area around the park.

It had this slow-and-easy type of ride in the pre-Six Flags section that always had a ton of guys in line for it because it kind of gave you a hummer.

I prefer the aesthetics of the post-katrina six flags.
