I would suggest watching this man's entire deconversion video series as well. And would consider it required viewing for anyone with an apostate pal.

memedumpster - 2011-01-16

I second this. This video hits way harder when watched at the end of the rest of the playlist.

I would easily buy this on DVD.

Robert DeNegro - 2011-01-16

Missed half the Goddamn Jets game because of this.

dancingshadow - 2011-01-16

Agree ! Thank you.

futurebot - 2011-01-18

yes nothing sells atheism like some internet nerd talking about how he developed a messiah complex after failing a statistics test, all set to the SEPHIROTH FINAL BATTLE THEME

godot - 2011-01-16

Nicely done. R. E. Friedman's color coded Pentateuch is pretty essential for teasing out the threads of the Documentary Hypothesis, but this works pretty well as an intro.

dek863 - 2011-01-16

If you like this, I recommend "The Evolution of God" by Robert Wright. Pretty good book, except for the end.

Dinanukht - 2011-01-16

Very tastefully done. The tone is perfect, I think: very clear, unwavering but not disrespectful. The opposite of evil, though it still very much belongs on poetv.

Robin Kestrel - 2011-01-16

Excellent use of color and graphics to convey info.

voodoo_pork - 2011-01-16

I prefer the "now" atheists to the "then" atheists.

joelkazoo - 2011-01-16

As do I.

I especially like how he came to these conclusions on his own, not by some neckbeard telling him "Hurf, durf, you're stupid for being a Christian! I have to go eat waffles, then masturbate!"

dystopianfuturetoday - 2011-01-16

....3 hours later.... that was a masterpiece. One of the most compelling things I've ever seen on the internet.

Grandmaster Funk - 2011-01-16

Ditto.

Konversekid - 2011-01-17

Agreed, this should be necessary viewing for any Christian raised or exposed atheists.

dek863 - 2011-01-16

This guy goes to the University of Kansas, same as me.

Ocyrus - 2011-01-17

That's actually the most amazing part of this whole thing he's doing... us East Coasters tend to think that something like this cannot come from "flyover country".

poorwill - 2011-01-16

Looks like I'm going to have to watch all of this. I had a smattering, but I still know more about the modern evolutions like Darkseid and Orion than I do about the Babylonian stuff.

godot - 2011-01-16

BTW, the current mainstream translation that seems to keep OT Hebrew names is the Catholic (but nonsectarian) Jerusalem Bible. Exodus 6:3 (referred to in the video) is rendered:

To Abraham, Isaac and Jacob I appeared as El Shaddai, but I did not make my name Yahweh known to them.

"El Shaddai" may mean "god of the mountains". Most bible translations render this like the the Evangelical fave NIV:

I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac and to Jacob as God Almighty, but by my name the LORD I did not make myself fully known to them

0:54 - Is that a silhouette of Dr. Manhattan for 1200 BCE?

Dread Pirate Roberts - 2011-01-17

Graphics are good, but a little unoriginal in some places. His other videos also over use modern movie music, such as some pieces from the Matrix movies.

Overall though, his message is profound, and I'm greatly enjoying making my way through them. Most of his expereinces happened in 2004.... looks like it took him a while to put all this together. I mean, jeeze, it seems like he came to these conclusions in 2004-2005. Probably just took him some time to sort it all out in his head and such.

wtf japan - 2011-01-18

Favorited, though I'd like to point out that merely resolving inconsistencies in the Bible with compelling hypotheses leaves something to be desired: positive evidence in the historical record (as opposed to privations of evidence and clever exegesis). Otherwise, this task, ironically, seems very similar to that of using compelling myths to explain the perceived inconsistencies of the universe.

poorwill - 2011-03-06

Neither you nor anyone will ever read this as this vid has long since dropped off the main page, but ... there actually is a ton of positive evidence, right there in the bible. No other sources or speculating about edits or any of that Da Vinci Code stuff is necessary. The bible is very, very clear that there are other gods hanging around and, and that the Hebrews were the cult of one of them (God Most High) - simply put, the text is a mess *without* the concept of polytheism, and only makes sense in light of it. Explains so many character motivations that are otherwise unexplained, negates so many 'wtf? guess this is over my head i'll just skip this part' moments. This video is actually way overselling the facts - you don't need to go back to the Enuma Elish or anything to make the realisation - they are just supporting documents that make it impossible to deny without lying to yourself.

Born in the RSR - 2011-10-17

17.10.2011 I read that.

spencer - 2011-01-19

This guy displays a winning combination of earnestness, empathy, and intellectual honesty.

His video series isn't perfect, but he's coming from the right place. And as someone who had already come to these conclusions, I still found the videos compelling... which is more than I can say for your garden variety youtube atheist.
