Rape Van Winkle - 2011-02-07

It was a sad day when the dream of the 90's died in Seattle, somewhere during the mid-late 00s.

Cena_mark - 2011-02-07

Note to self: Stay away from Portland.

MrBuddy - 2011-02-07

This is kind of like The Onion version of what Portland is like. So far Portlandia has been better than the trailer, leaving me laughing and yelling at the TV, "I know people like that!"

Still the residents of Portland will be happy to hear you say that. Current migration patterns in the US show people from all over America leaving their home states and coming to the Pacific NW. Portlanders are notorious for having a mild dislike of residents who weren't born in Portland and you'll notice the people in this video are actually Californians. I'd say what best sums it up is one blog comment I read that described Oregon as, "California's Canada".

Kumquatxop - 2011-02-07

oh my god

Jack Sheppard - 2011-02-07

i live in portland and i know multiple unicyclists

dichotic1 - 2011-02-07

i went to portland once in and three days I went to a wedding where everyone rode bikes, went to a rock concert at an artist "colony", played a Theremin, and slept in a tent in a public park.

Charles - 2011-02-07

I see at least two double-decker bikes every time I go downtown in Portland.

garcet71283 - 2011-02-07

Portland has, and always will be, 10 years behind Seattle...which itself is 5-10 years behind everywhere else.

dead_cat - 2011-02-07

So in 20 years Portland will be hell on Earth?

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2011-02-07

The dumpster diving scene from this show was gold.

The Mothership - 2011-02-07

Note how Portland's identity is couched in a anti-Californian perspective. This is 100% accurate.

This is amusing in many ways. It does not depict all there is to Portland, but it is entertaining nonetheless.

phalsebob - 2011-02-07

As long as the dream lives somewhere I will have hope!

BHWW - 2011-02-07

"You could put a bird on something and call it art!"

This has been a pretty amusing series so far.

themilkshark - 2011-02-07

I've never been to Portland, but the "dream of the 90's" described here is alive all over the country.

Nothing about this is funny, except how unfunny Fred Armisen is. Being painfully unfunny all the time circles back around to funny, somehow.

Slumgullion - 2011-02-07

Too many notes for you?

cognitivedissonance - 2011-02-07

The Sphere Of Portland effect extends to Olympia, and mysteriously ends at the border to Lacey. The damnedest thing. I'm told Eugene is as far south as it goes.

glasseye - 2011-02-07

Well, kind of. Eugene and Olympia are similar to Portland, but each are definitely different.

Seattle has clumps of Portlandia, if you go to the right neighborhood. The whole swath of the U district to Ballard feels pretty darn similar to Portland in a lot of ways. Other neighborhoods feel completely different.

Alas, there's nothing like it down here in the greater LA area. :-(

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2011-02-07

Sebastopol up in NorCal feels pretty similar to it (in miniature).

Kumquatxop - 2011-02-07

Ashland is pretty Portlandy as well

Louddetective - 2011-02-12

Oh my stars and garters, another Olympian. Also this show is very nearly the truest thing ever.

cognitivedissonance - 2011-02-08

Olympia + Quizno's = Lacey.

tak_a_je_to - 2011-02-12

The dream described within this video is still alive and well in Austin, as well. Sigh.

CharlesSmith - 2011-04-07

Yeah, you could pretty much have set Portlandia in Toronto as well (except everyone in that video is white).

Old_Zircon - 2011-06-28

Hi, I live in Providence, RI.

Lurchi - 2011-02-28

I like pronouncing it OreGON to piss people off.

FABIO - 2012-11-17

Tim & Eric fans haaaaaaaate this show.

It really is the best ever.
