i don't "get" TnA. Is their more to it that a retirement home for 90s wrestlers and guy's who never got over while on WWF?

I thought, at first, that it was just a vanity project for Jeff Jarrett. But now, I have no idea.

Panda Energy owns it because their owner's daughter uses it as a vanity project/tax shelter. Also it pulls consistent terrible ratings for Spike TV, but those terrible ratings are slightly better than whatever number the billionth airing of REVENGE OF THE SITH does.

TNA is a privately owned company, so no one really has much of a picture of their finances. I would imagine they turn some sort of profit due to merchandise and house show revenue. Spike TV pays for several of their large contracts (Hulk Hogan, etc.).

Their television ratings have actually consistently gone up on average every year they've been on the air.

I think TNA just has an extremely dedicated core audience of fans who will not watch the WWE under any circumstances and fans of wrestling in general who keep up with every major promotion.

For a bit there TNA was pushing an in-ring product that was focused on solid wrestling. The top of the card was usually still the old has beens and never weres but the middle of the card tended toward really good lightweights and spot monkeys.

Now, I don't even know. The brought in Bischoff and Hogan, Kevin Nash is inexplicably still wrestling and none of it makes sense. There's a really, really strong WCW ca 1999 vibe to it on the few occasions I catch it and it's sad because we're left with (still) no competition to the WWE.

TNA looked like the great white hope of wrestling when it first launched, what with being a crossroads fed for pretty much every talented young aerial guy on the Eastern Seaboard (plus some of the worthwhile ECW guys). Unfortunately, the only way to see it at that point was via its weekly PPVs.

Soon after it got a deal on Spike, a friend of mine described it as "half the stuff that I wish the WWF was doing, and half the stuff I'm glad the WWF doesn't do anymore."

Whoa whoa, Kevin Nash is STILL wrestling? Did he learn how to walk without quads or what?

Every PPV is going to have lousy matches and spot, but he only does dedicated episodes to the PPVs that really stink. December to Dismember '06, Great American Bash '91, and of course, Legends of Wrestling.
