I don't have a problem with him acting like a baby in his private life, but why is he on SSI? Is it for his obesity? The guy is capable of building his own furniture and has no trouble communicating. This man should have a job.

He has some mental problems, but not in a debilitating sense. He doesn't have a child's mind he just likes to act like a baby. He even says himself that he acts like an adult when he's out of the house. He's able to drive, buy lumber, build furniture. He is fully capable of working. Pull his check. The big baby won't kill himself. That's what crybaby attention whores do, "Wah If I don't get my way I'll kill myself." Even if his suicide threat is sincere I wouldn't give crap.

I'm not convinced leaving him to to rot on SSI for the next 40 years is the kindest solution. There's a guy with Downs doing portering in my office and he's damn proud of it.

Mark is pretty spot on. He seriously has no problem adapting to social norms to go buy lumber to build a cribe with. He shouldn't be leeching off of the government because he clearly shows capability to work. If he's so interested in baby, he could at least start a cribe business since he seems to know a lot about it. There really is no excuse for this. My neighbor would pull this same trick. She would spend her whole day bumming smokes and trying to get money or someone to go buy them for her and she could clearly work but every time someone mentioned her getting a job, she would fake a seizure. And she didn't take care of her god damn kids and was on disability and whatever benefits she got from her husband's death (I think she killed him) and her apartment was the filthiest place outside of a dog-hoarder's home and it smelled like cigarettes and shit.

But hey I know dumb people like making themselves outraged over people getting SSI because of entitlement issues so feel free to hate on him for "gaming the system" or whatever.

Okay, I am having trouble grasping something here.

I see schizophrenics on a fairly regular basis that for some reason, do not have money for medication. Including a dude who thinks he is God, who lives with his parents, who only have enough money to give him the medication he needs for the first half of every month. He stands outside the parking lot I work sometimes with a giant cross. He isn't asking for donations, he is just...lost and completely insane. Harmless, but insane.

How the fuck is it he can't be given money for schizophrenic medication but this asshole gets money for being a fatass?

We're not paying him SSI because he's ill, we're paying him SSI to keep him out of the workforce and away from your goddamn Whoppers. We give him food stamps so he doesn't come to your Wal-Mart and steal your Snickers bars and then go to prison, wasting far more time and resources. We can't depend upon parenting to do a good job of anything, because if we were to TRY to take the kid away from his obviously negligent family, that would be an offense to your concept of family rights.

Pay the goddamn taxes, let the creep have his SSI, and pray he dies of exposure when the space heater craps out, it's literally the most enlightened thing we can do without actually pointing out the flaws in the logic upon which all sides of the argument depend.
