This is what I was talking about on the FRC video yesterday. But for those that missed it, the Highway Patrol got into a bit of a power trip and told the protesters that they aren't allowed to have sticks or long poles because well... they were weapons (yeah okay, let's go with that).
From our local paper:
"When Witt insisted that people on the other side of the gay rights issue were allowed to carry flags and signs on poles, Hatcher told him regulations prohibited signs.
"I tell people this all the time," said Hatcher, supervisor of the KHP's Capitol Police. "I'm bending the rules a little bit to allow them to have the flags."
Photos in The Topeka Capital-Journal's archives from events on the Statehouse grounds earlier this year clearly show people with flags and signs attached to or mounted on poles."

One of the links I included in the description is a photo from the Kansas Sesquicentennial Celebration and a couple are from an Anti-Abortion Rally. Topekans are starting to see how much of a hassle Brownback is making it to demonstrate if you aren't on his side.
On June 1st, the ladies from the Kansas chapter of NOW had to deal with police officers trying to confiscate tires from them. TIRES!!!
"On June 1st, the women’s rights organization took three tires to the Statehouse to protest State Representative Pete Degraaf’s (R) earlier comments suggesting that women should plan and purchase insurance for an abortion, just as people prepare for a flat tire.
The tires taken were away from the protesters inside the capitol despite obtaining prior approval from capitol police. Police also initially told NOW protesters to remove the tires from the steps outside the state capitol."

"The commander of the Kansas Highway Patrol's Capitol Police says a KHP lieutenant was just doing his job Friday when he told people conducting a rally at the Capitol they wouldn't be allowed to carry flagpoles onto the Statehouse grounds.
A Department of Administration policy governs what is allowed to be carried into the Statehouse and onto the grounds, Capt. Marc McCune, Capitol Police commander, said Monday.
Flags and signs mounted on poles are among items that aren't allowed inside the building, McCune said. He added that Capitol Police officers also have the authority to prevent them from coming onto the grounds, or order they be removed, when there is reason to think they may present a danger or a hazard."
The Capitol Police are an arm of the Highway Patrol that oversee our governmental grounds and streets that adjoin them. They Highway Patrol answer to Col. Ernest Garcia, a member of Governor Brownback cabinet. So when the commander says that the Highway Patrolman was "just doing his job", he means that he was under orders by Brownback's cronies.

Rovin - 2011-06-28 When Wichita had its own Alternative Newspaper - F5 - years ago, we had a writer on staff who actually wrote parody letters of actual letters from the Wichita Eagle. A lot of the time they could be difficult to distinguish from the sources.

Fuck straight shame, its not like they're prohibited from bringing their flags in, and that's obviously what's important.
I see nowhere in those provisions where they explicitly state that poles used to hold up flags or signs are okay "Unless yer oneeathem dang queers!"

Explicitly stated huh? No problem, do you also need to to be specific to this instance or is a more general statement okay? I'll just go ahead and punch of a notarized affidavit for my state officials to slap their John Hancock on. I see no problem getting them because they should have no reason to hide their bigotry under bullshit rules that they arbitrarily enforce, as this has never been done before in the history of bullshit rules.
Also, does it need to be written out that you have terrible opinions that really should just be kept to yourself, or would just implying that do?
