I like this trend of giving villains particular and idiosyncratic voices.
Meerkat - 2012-10-23 I want to see a movie where Stroke Guy is the voice of the villain. And I want said villain to tie up hookers and force them to watch bad movies, in which the villain also has the voice of Stroke Guy.

They're going to make Stark boring and angst-y? Oh joy, way to kill one of the few fun characters, guys.

Dinkin Flicka - 2012-10-23 This character, hero, and franchise all fucking suck.

Xenocide - 2012-10-24 They already did a fine job of making the franchise boring when they made Iron Man 2.

Is it so hard to find a known Chinese actor that you have to hire Ben Kingsley?
So, Jackie Chan, Jet Li and Chow Yun Fat were too busy or something? What about the guy who played Lo Pan, is he still alive?
garcet71283 - 2012-10-23 I can hear the conversation now:
"So, we need a well known Chinese actor to play The Mandarin."
"I don't know, having an evil villain named 'The Mandarin' played by a Chinese actor might make us look racist"
"Then how about we get a well known British actor, dress him in a vaguely Chinese costume and have him talk in a indeterminate accent"
"Ben Kingsley is available, he was great in Ghandi and India is in Asia right?"

WHO WANTS DESSERT - 2012-10-23 They went out of their way to not make the villain Chinese because otherwise China's strict censorship laws would lock them out of that huge market.
StanleyPain - 2012-10-23 When Ben Kingsley acts, he's awesome. The problem is there a lot of films where he just sort of is there and talks in a British accent and wears "evil" costumes, but isn't actually doing much "Acting." If, for this film, he actually decides to BE the character and take on a role, he might be great.
Noober - 2012-10-24 I looked up the Mandarin on wikipedia and evidently his mother was an Englishwoman. So there you shitty racists.
Caminante Nocturno - 2012-10-24 If they don't have him yell "FEEL MAI POWAAAAH!" at least once, then there's no point in making him the villain.

I couldn't make it halfway through the 1st one.
FABIO - 2012-10-23 I never got the absurd amount of praise it got. Unless you really REALLY want to see Downey and Paltrow improv off each other for 90 minutes.
And even then you'd have to sit through scenes of a lame villain and the most offensively jingoistic horseshit since Transformers.

Well-Educated Pan-Asian Communist Crypto-Islamic Terrorist hijacks American iconography and military might to enact sinister agenda, must be stopped by a hawkish true patriot capitalist ubermensch, unfairly maligned for his failure to fully prevent massive loss of life in a prior attack on New York City.

this looks like one of those fake trailers where they edit it up and add scary music and try to make a lighthearted movie seem dark and ominous.

It's being based on the Extremis storyline by Warren Ellis, which is pretty fertile ground for a making a great Iron Man movie (they already took the Extremis origin story for the first movie). My only concern is shoehorning The Mandarin in there. Jon Favreau was always ambivalent about the Mandarian because he's so ludicrously over-powered in the comics and his origins are muddy (originally he's magical, then it was "alien technology" etc.). I agreed that it would be hard to put him in a film, even after Thor and Avengers and all that, and have him seem not-ridiculous. The first film alluded that the terrorists in the movie were working for Mandarin, but I honestly figured it was just a nod and they'd never seriously put him in a movie. The Extremis plot already has a great villain, so I don't know how this will work out on screen.
Oh well..I was concerned about them changing Whiplash in IM2 and that movie turned out pretty good I think.

I like the implication Stark makes at the beginning, that after the big adrenaline rush that was his Avengers adventure, being a solo superhero just seems so boring.
It's like he knows what the audience is thinking.
