Arg durian. Terrible stuff. I can remember the smell distinctly, like something rotten. The only time I ate it in Malaysia was on a dare from my Chinese driver/translator. I ate hot chili tofu and all kinds of wild stuff when I was there because of that guy. We got along pretty well.

They have signs in most of the hotels that have the NO SMOKING sign accompanied by a NO DURIAN sign. The smell is impossible to get rid of.

Rancid, terrible, stuff. 5 for vicarious nausea.

Counterpoint: Durian is delicious and less foul smelling than many cheeses and fermented fish dishes.

Durian is AWFUL.

Foodie boy can't tolerate anything not made of beef/wheat/milk and served on a tablecloth?

Also not sure why hot chili tofu falls into the weird category

baleen
My God you're boring. I have eaten fruits your lily white ass has never heard of. Go watch Tiny Toons, child.

SolRo
Oh-oh, someone's looked in the specialty produce section of their supermarket!

I WOULD LIKE TO INSPIRE YOU TO BE A BETTER AND MORE INTERESTING MAN. PLEASE HELP ME DO THIS AND COMMIT TO A MORE AWE INSPIRING LIFE OF ADVENTURE, STARTING WITH A TOTAL REBOOT OF YOUR RIDICULOUS TASTES IN EVERYTHING.

Put two of these together and you've got an awesome band.

Also:
If I wanted to eat a rancid cheese that I've never tasted before I'd eat your cock!

Feel free to use that one. Direct it at someone who has a cock you've never tasted before.

My favorite fruit is dragon fruit. It is delicious and wonderful. I like the white variety the best, because the purple stains the shit out of everything.

If you like your custard tasting like garlic and onions, then I suppose the raw fruit is OK. But the milkshakes and caramel candies are awesome.

Simian Pride
Oh, and 5 for deliciousness.

Is it worth trying the ones imported by Asian markets in the US? they all seem to have been frozen and thawed and I'm not sure what effect that would have on the fruit(?).

Simian Pride
Not sure, I've bought all my durians in Norway, and I don't know if those are transported here frozen or not. Nevertheless, I just ate some thawed duran from my freezer which were quite nice, even though it's been frozen since July.

Lef
Can't speak for the frozen stuff, but if you want to try it, and you should try it, you owe yourself new experiences, I suggest:

- Go with the good stuff, D24 is a well known brand that is not too harsh, some of the stranger varieties are a bit much.
- Start small, don't eat the entire fruit! that stuff is a calorie bomb and can make you sick, especially when mixing with booze.
- Quality Durian Ice Cream, Durian puffs, or pudding are a good way to easy into this fruit.
- I like durian candy, and McDonalds durian McFlurry ain't bad, but the taste is very artificial and far from the real thing, the richness of the flavor is lost.
Jet Bin Fever
Either you're Asian or have really shitty taste.

ashtar.
This is poeTV and we'll fight about anything.
Jet Bin Fever
damn right, and FUCK YOU. Just kidding. Hugs!

oddeye
I don't fucking agree with you cocksuckers.

TheGarbageFairy
Durian is great, you can make vegan pulled pork out of the canned stuff!

....or is that just me?
